SP1 is free.

http://update.microsoft.com/

It will not change your burn result. But your computer will be safer/better working. Cheap/low quality media is a bit of hit and miss.

Thanks for the help i figured out the service pack stuff im gonna get a verbatem disk and try again and hope thats the issue i just didnt know if my burner was to old or something

Posted

It might be too old for the RITEK-S04-66 MID/dye. Hopefully you'll have more luck with the Verbatim discs.

If you can get the 2.4x versions (MKM-001-00) rather than the (MKM-003-00) then try to do so.

If they don't work, you haven't really lost anything. Get yourself a new drive and use them with that.

From firmwarehq.com:

HJ24 13th October, 2005 hpdvd740b_HJ24.exe

This is the latest firmware that you are running.

I would just give up on this burner, it is just too old even if it does support the MID that you are using. If it has trouble burning or verifying good quality media then I wouldn't waste another disc and just go ahead an invest in a more current burner. In the long run it will save you trouble let alone money on buying discs and having high chances of just wasting them.

Also note when you do get a new burner eventually, don't be surprised if you still can't get 2.4x burning speeds. Any new burner now will automatically overspeed 2.4x rated media to at least 4x, and that cannot be overruled. Pay close attention to what imgburn states as the slowest speeds possible on the media you are using, and the supported speeds available will always override your choice for the slowest 2.4x or even 2x.

Still it amazes me that users pick 2x when it is stated that it is not even available, let alone impossible to burn a +R disc at 2x. Oh well... :whistling:

ok so i did a little more research about burning backups and my disk drive and what i read was you need to change the booktype to dvd rom to work in my kids xbox but unfortunately my disk drive does not have that feature i was wondering if you knew a way to make it work i heard of flashing the drive to he 840 firmware but not to sure how to do it. also if you dont have any ideas for that i was wonering what would be a good internal drive that would let me change the booktype thats not to expensive thanks for all your help

I 14:34:58 Source Media Type: DVD+R DL (Book Type: DVD-ROM) (Disc ID: MKM-001-00) (Speeds: 2.4x)

Your burner already booktypes DVD+R DL media to DVD-ROM by itself, like most burners do, so that isn't the problem. Do you have a SATA port available? If you do then get a Optiarc AD-7260S burner, it's not expensive and it's a great burner.
