Hello Guys,

before I start to explain, zes I read this Topic: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000

and yes i searched google, but Im still not sure why I get this strange error.

Im using a Verbatim DVD-R DL disc to burn the Game Metroid other M.

I read everywhere that I need to set the Layer-Break under Tools > Settings > Write tab to 2084960.

But as soon as I try to Burn the Game, I get this Error: Cannot set the Layer break position when burning DVD-R DL Media

uhm, what can i do, Im using here the laptop of my gf, which is a Dell Vostro 1015 with an Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-7700H

Do I need a Firmware update?

If so, could you tell me which one?

Im getting this List: http://www.firmwarehq.com/search.php?keywords=Optiarc+DVD+-RW+AD-7700H&chk=199

But I could just find firmwares for the Optiarc NR-7700A and Optiarc AD-7700S, can I make the updates with them too?

and if yes, how do i do I flash my FW?

Anyway, trying it without layer-breaker gives me an strange Wii error.

After some time, in the drive, the wii doesnt react anymore, no difference if in the Home-Menue or in the Disc;Loading Channel, the courser just disappears.

Would be great, if someone could help me >)

SOLVED: it worked with DVD+R DL

seems that -R cant set a layer break, so always use +R Media.

Try with DVD +R DL media instead. The ones you have now can't set the LB as you wish.

ok, i will try this today.

Just one more question, most people say that +R DVDs can break the Wii laser after some time, because its harder to read them or something?

Is this different for +R DLs or is this whole thing just a rumor?

Till now I backuped all my Wii games with -R DVDs :P

Thank u so much for your fast answer!

When you continuously use DVD+R in your wii, the little piece of data that is in the disc that sets the booktype for the disc to be read on the wii, the laser have to strain itself to read the data and after a while, the laser starts to break down causing the laser to have difficulty to read the media after a while, so the only way to allow normal function of the wii's laser is to turn down the pot in the laser from 700ohms to 600ohms or worse yet 500ohms, but this tweak kills the laser faster if you don't know what you are doing.

Sounds as a joke to me...

More or less the same reason as if you burn the discs with a very low speed, they will be easier to read and not wear the laser head out.
