uppercutter Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Hi, I have been trying to burn iso files (xbox 360 games) with Imgburn 2.5.5., and out of 6 tries, I have got the same error 5 times. Once the burning process is complete (100%), it appears a message reading 'Synchronising cache', and my laptop gets stuck. There is no way to get out of it save by putting it off. Obviously, the DVD+R DL you get is not complete, so you can well throw it away. I am using an ACER laptop, and I burn the iso image from a hard disk drive connected to my laptop thru USB. At first, I thought maybe my laptop had not enough memory (as it cannot support the 7.5 GB file, and I have to take it from an external HDD), but since I could get a good copy that worked well, but failed with another 5 copies, I am not sure whether it is the cause of the error. Could anybody help me with that? I have read on the internet it is a common error, but have not seen any solution to it. Thank you

LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Install XP SP3. Uninstall ImgBurn (to wipe out all the old settings) and then install the latest version. Try again with the MKM-003-00 at 4x. It's a slim line drive and they're all pretty rubbish. Combine that with the cheapo RITEK-S04-66 dye and you're asking for trouble. As such, I kinda have to ignore your most recent failure. Cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc may also help. Can you post your filter driver list for me too please. The option is in the Tools menu.

Also, where can I get the filter driver list (in the tools menu)?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 MKM-003-00 is the dye used by the Verbatim discs. 4x is the other speed (besides 2.4x) that your drive says it supports on them. If you look in the tools menu in ImgBurn, you'll see an option mentioning the filter drivers. Click it. Click the copy to clipboard button, paste here in the forum.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 ok well now I'd remove NTIDrvr, UBHelper and Pfc from the filter drivers list (using the same tool in ImgBurn). After that it's a case of trying the other things I mentioned and posting new logs if you still have problems after you've exhausted all the options. A last resort would be to buy yourself a decent desktop sized drive and put it in an enclosure.

I am curious to know why some times (very rare) it works, and some others (most of them) it doesn't. LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 It looks like you ejected the tray that time... how'd you manage that? A paperclip? Try burning in safe mode and see if that works. Otherwise it's 'buy a new drive' time or just forget the whole thing.

Otherwise it's 'buy a new drive' time or just forget the whole thing. Yes, it was thanks to a paperclip, and this time, I didn't have to put it off, but it kept working normal. First time it occurs, which has allowed me to copy the log. Please clarify what you mean by burning in safe mode. Is it an option in some menu? If I bought an external drive, would it work, or I should buy a complete desktop computer and drive given the limited capacity of my laptop?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 It's an option when Windows first starts. Press the F8 key the second windows starts to load and you should get a menu with Safe Mode as an option on it. I wouldn't buy a prebuilt external drive, just a generic 5.25" usb/esata enclosure and then a decent normal sized drive. I'm a more of a desktop (well, full tower!) pc guy myself (although laptops have their place), but it depends on what you want to spend your money on!

Would a decent desktop and a 5.25'' usb/esata enclosure guarantee that the disks work properly? Of course, I would follow the rest of recommendations (cleaning the drive, trying at different speeds, etc.), but since I see there are many people suffering from this problem, I just wanted to make sure whether it is feasible to burn dvd+r dl, and that they work in the xbox at a reasonable percentage. This is just to decide whether the investment is worth while. Thanks,
