oneshotgone11 Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 (edited) Hi, I am trying to burn a movie to a DVD-R disc using ImgBurn but the .VOB files have been split into 5 seperate files because of it's size. I was wondering is there a way to make it play seamlessly in the DVD player? I highlight the 5 files so they all burn to the disc but when I put it in the DVD player it lists the 5 seperate files. When watching the DVD when it moves to the next file there is a pause then it moves to the next file and the numbers on the DVD player goes back to 00:00. Is there any way to kind of link all of the VOB files together so it plays seamlessly or maybe use them as just seperate chapters to skip through? Thanks in advance EDIT: Sorry here's my program's log if it makes a difference: I 00:19:52 ImgBurn Version 2.5.5.0 started! I 00:19:52 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Edition (6.1, Build 7600) I 00:19:52 Total Physical Memory: 3,074,988 KB - Available: 1,245,456 KB I 00:19:52 Initialising SPTI... I 00:19:52 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 00:19:52 -> Drive 1 - Info: hp DVDRAM GT30L mP04 (E:) (ATAPI) I 00:19:52 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM! Edited December 18, 2011 by oneshotgone11
Rincewind Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I have to ask, are you burning JUST .VOB files to a disc? If so, your disc won't be a valid dvd video disc. You need .vob .ifo and .bup files in a VIDEO_TS directory. If you have all such files and are ready to go, you can just burn them onto a disc. If they will not fit on a single layered disc, get a double layered disc then. As far as playing seamlessly, that is only an issue if you are burning a dual layered disc, and not a single layered one. My guess is before wasting a disc, perhaps make sure you have all files mentioned and not just .vob files. If you do and your files will not fit on a single layered disc, consider burning it to a dual layered disc. If that is not an option, you can still make your video fit on a single layered disc using DVDShrink (it is free).
oneshotgone11 Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) Thanks! That makes sense! How do I know if my discs are single or dual layer? My discs are "Signalex" and they say DVD+R 120 16X / 4.7Gb / sp120min Also, if I JUST have .VOB files for something is there a free program out there I can put them into which will create the menu and everything I am missing and stuff? Rincewind Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Yes your discs are single layered. You can use DVDFlick (its free) to properly author your disc, and it will add menus and such too.
oneshotgone11 Posted December 24, 2011 Author Posted December 24, 2011 Thankyou! One more question, what is the difference between a single and dual layered disc? I think my files fits on single layer (they are less than 4.7Gb).
Rincewind Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 (edited) Single layered discs hold 120min of video or 4.7GiB (~4.4GB) of data, while dual layered discs have an extra layer and hold 240min of video or 8.5GiB (~7.8GB) of data. Thats of course for +R DL, the sizes are slightly less for -R DL, but I wouldn't recommend -R DL anyways, due to the fact that you might have to choose a different layer break position for your video, which you cannot do that with -R DLs, in short with +R DLs you can arbitrarily choose when to jump to the second layer which like I said before is useful particularly for burning video so you can find the best position on your video in order to choose the optimum point when you have to change layers, whereas -R DLs L0(first layer) has to be burned completely before switching to the second layer. I may have described in detail more than I needed to though, but you can always check the wikipedia articles on -R DL and +R DLs. Edited December 24, 2011 by Rincewind
