I've arrived at imgburn through slysoft. I am not sure whether the inbuilt drive on my Tosh L650 is dead or not. This is what I'm getting -

I 09:14:06 ImgBurn Version 2.5.6.0 started!

I 09:14:06 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Edition (6.1, Build 7601 : Service Pack 1)

I 09:14:06 Total Physical Memory: 3,988,320 KB - Available: 1,176,744 KB

W 09:14:06 AnyDVD can interfere with ImgBurn's ability to verify accurately, please ensure it's disabled!

I 09:14:06 Initialising SPTI...

I 09:14:06 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...

I 09:14:06 -> Drive 1 - Info: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C TF20 (E:) (ATAPI)

I 09:14:06 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM!

and then nothing, drive stops 'grinding' .....

I get an i/o error when I click the load button with the interpretation 'invalid field in cdb'

I tried to find an updated firmware but the latest on firwarehq couldn't find a suitable drive.

Any help appreciated

I'd expect 'Load' to fail on a laptop drive. You can only eject the tray on those, not load it.

If the drive isn't able to recognise/initialise any discs you put in it, yes, it's probably dead. Try cleaning it - you'll have to use the manual method because a cleaning disc won't work!

Thanks for that, I did clean it and still nothing using the same disk (from a box set of the wire, which works fine in an external drive via usb)

Just for fun I loaded a CD from a Glen Miller golden greats box set; voila! it worked -

So, bad disk? a bit bizarre, since they all worked fine in the other drive.... Or just the drive is sensitive??

Loaded a blank Verbatim DVD+R disk - and again it worked -

Happy 2012.

Your drive is just picky, then.

Yep, and some, it won't play certain disks with VLC but will play them with Windows Media Player. However, the Wire dvds won't play in the internal drive under either VLC or WMP; but do play in the external drive (TSST SN-S083N) with both..... picky....

Off to enjoy the Reveillon, as they call it here.
