ianymaty Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 The semaphore timeout period is the problem of external drives (not enough power to operate). Take it out from the enclosure and mount it in the computer or try other ports from the back of the motherboard avoiding front panel or other extensions. (!) Please don't start multiple threads on the same problem, use the Edit button.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Get a different enclosure. Some just don't work well with the USB ports in the computer and cause timeouts long before they're meant to happen. (I've never considered it to be power related at all)
djmatt8787 Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Get a different enclosure. Some just don't work well with the USB ports in the computer and cause timeouts long before they're meant to happen. (I've never considered it to be power related at all) ok, found MY thread by searching for YOUR posts UK... ??? nvm i am going to try to clean slate my tower this weekend and see if it will work as an internal drive. i had hoped that through an enclosure i would be able to successfully perform my desired functions, as my laptop has all the programs, connections, and UMPH. maybe i should seek another (more reputable?) drive enclosure... will update over the weekend.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Sticking with your laptop, you have a few options... 1. Get a new usb enclosure and hope it has a better chipset - or at least one that's compatible with your usb chipset. 2. Get a USB pcmcia / expresscard card and hope it works with your enclosure. 3. Get a eSATA pcmcia / expresscard card (if you don't already have an esata port) and an enclosure that supports eSATA. This will allow you to use your drive at full speed... USB may not. I found your thread by just looking for your name in the list of topics (in the 'Started By' column) on the first page. It was only 5 or so down thismorning.

(hope there was nothing on ther that i needed :-/ ) just wrote Dead Island... creepy game!!! so thank you lightning UK for beating some sense into me! but whats the deal with overburning? how do you make the drive overburn so that i can fit the whole img on there? i tried to do CoD MW3, but dont think it wrote everything i need, as i cant get online access... oh BTW i have a samsung drive :-D
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 You can't overburn DVD double layer discs without some sort of firmware modification. One does exist but it's only for a specific range of drives. You'll have to do some research.
