gohanrage Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Hello, I wanted to know why when ever I create an ISO I get this second file called .mds why does image burn create this file. what happens if I delete it? Sometimes I will use the Build option instead of Create Image from disc just so I don't get the .mds file. If its useless can you remove stop it from being created in the next update to ImgBurn. Thanks
gohanrage Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 I just noticed your article on problems with dual layer media and you have a list of stores you can purchase from. I am from Canada and buy my media at www.blankmedia.ca They sell Taiyo Yuden Now Called JVC. they sell this Dual layer Optical Quantum Media that says it uses the same AZO DYE as Verbatim DVD+R DL OPTICAL QUANTUM 8X WHITE THERMAL EVEREST HUB 50 PCS SKU: OQDPRDL08WTP-E DVD+R Double Layer nearly doubles the storage capacity of a standard DVD with two AZO recording layers on a single-sided disc. With the added capacity, DVD+R DL media is the preferred DVD media for video and gaming developers. In fact most Hollywood movies and Video Games for consoles like X-Box are developed on 8.5GB Double Layer discs, whereby the Optical Quantum DVD+R DL discs are often used by professionals in these fields when making copies for internal use. Optical Quantum's DVD+R DL discs provide exceptional performance, reliability, and compatibility. Certified and supported by the industries high speed Double Layer writers, Optical Quantum discs are approved for high speed burning up to 8X speeds with a storage capacity of 8.5GBs. Since the thread was Locked I couldn't add this comment to that thread
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 The MDS usually just stores that layer break info - but is also used when file splitting is enabled (automatically or manually). Other times it's used to allow the mounting of a small ISO in the likes of DAEMON Tools and have it emulate a DVDROM rather than a CDROM. If you don't want the program to make them, tell it not to.

So if I turn mds files off will I get error messages. how will it effect the way the program works
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 It depends on how you use it. What do you do with the images you create by reading discs?
gohanrage Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 (edited) It depends on how you use it. What do you do with the images you create by reading discs? Once I have an ISO file I use it to write onto another DVD. At the moment I am only doing Single Layer DVD to Single Layer. Edited January 16, 2012 by gohanrage
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Well it shouldn't be making an MDS for a single layer DVD - unless it's less than 1GB in size or file splitting it being used.
gohanrage Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 I really have no idea. Not sure what file splitting is. I could see if a file had to be split between two layers on a DVD. That's all that comes to mind when I hear the word file splitting
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Post a log of you reading a disc where you then end up with an ISO and MDS.
gohanrage Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 I do want to buy some of those optical quantum Dual Layer Media. Since they use AZO Dye which is what makes Verbatim DVDs High Quality. Everyone should know to look for the AZO logo on the packaging else they discs are CMC even though they have Verbatim Branding.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Are you quite sure it made an MDS file for that read?! With the default setting (Auto) for 'Create Image Layout File', it shouldn't have done. Go back and read the disc again. Just copy + paste everything from the log window once the read has finished.

MDS was definitely Checked after I made the ISO I noticed the MDS that's why I asked about its importance. I have since went into the settings and unchecked MDS under the Read Tab. so should I go back in and recheck MDS and create another ISO?

LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Ignore the MDS checkbox in the settings, I'm talking about the drop down box called 'Create Image Layout File'. It defaults to 'Auto' but maybe you've set it to 'Yes'. When on 'Auto' (and based on the info I see in the log), it wouldn't be creating an MDS when reading that disc.* *Unless it contains a BDAV/BDMV folder.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Ah damn, I see the problem ( )... the code looking for the BDAV/BDMV folders was returning the opposite of what it should have been. One of the conditional checks was then passing when it shouldn't have been, causing the MDS to get created. Consider it fixed for the next release.

gohanrage Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 So do you know when you'll be releasing an update to imgburn? is there a schedule you follow for releasing updates? Are You (LIGHTNING UK!) The only person who creates IMGBURN? Do you have a Release Notes Text Document somewhere on the website. To see what has been fixed and what still needs to be fix? I downloaded IMGBurn on my Parents Laptop. I was wondering Do I have to create an ISO of one Disc before I can copy it to another disc. I like recommending your program but some people don't understand the whole ISO thing. They rather just put in one disc click Copy and then wait for it to prompt to insert blank and press continue. If your making a lot of copies of a disc an ISO is perfect. its also perfect when you have a program called VLC media player since it can play a movie in ISO format no problem. its good for people who like to store movies on a Server and have access to those movies from anywhere in the home.
