Burner: LG BH10LS30

Media: sony BD-R DL 50gb 2x (Disc ID: MEI-T01-001)

Write speed is set to 2x but the effective write speed stays around 0.9x

The Disc is not empty, should i fully erase it first and see what effective write speed it gets?

It's because the disc is (was) formatted with spare areas enabled - thus the drive activates 'hardware defect management' and verifies every 'write' operation on the fly as it goes.

Doing so slows the burn down a lot.

I can't see that a quick erase in ImgBurn would have made any difference to it... is that really all you did?

A Full erase would have (if using default settings) formatted the disc again but turned off spare areas and therefore deactivated defect management.

The other way to make it burn at normal speed (even when defect management is enabled) is to enable the 'FastWrite' option in the settings ('Write' tab).

I tried doing a full erase, but at 54% got stuck and i couldn't even open the drive untill after rebooting windows.

Then i tried burning an image to the disc but it got stuck right away, iirc something about setting the write speed. Tried aborting but it was taking too long so i rebooted again.

Did the quick erase then wich i mentioned in the previous post, and burned the image at 2x
