Hello guys, today I tried for the first time to burn a DL DVD. I have a DL ISO and I want to burn it in a DL DVD. So I grabbed a few Verbatim DVD-R DL. I read some instructions here but I have a problem. I am using ImgBurn 2, I choose the ISO, I choose the layer brake position (the one that says NO at the SPLIT) but just before the process starts a message appears saying this:

"Cannot set the layer break position when burning DVD-R DL media in DAO mode

Continue?"

I click on NO cause I don't want to make any mistakes and waste the DL DVD.

So what should I do?? Thanks a lot.

spahar, Please try using Verbatim +DL disc to burn to. I think you'll find they will work much better for you at setting the layer break position. :)

An image must be built in a specific way for burning onto DVD-R DL media if you want to stick to the DVD Video specs regarding layerbreaks.

You'll have to rebuild it with a layerbreak in the correct place - which is a 'fixed' position on DVD-R DL (It can be moved on DVD+R DL which is why they're better for this kind of thing).

First of all thanks for your quick answers. Ok I'll try DVD+R DL in the future, but now I have 5 Verbatim DVD-R DL and considering their price I'd like to make a good use of them. After reading what you said I understand that there is still a way to make it work by rebuilting the ISO with a correct layerbreak position. I tried something like that before creating this thread, I decrypted the ISO into FILE (VIDEO_TS Folder) and I rebuilded the ISO with the ImgBurn Build Mode following this guide http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=1777 , the problem was the same.

So can you point me to the correct direction for rebuilding the ISO, a guide would be much appreciated, thanks.

When you rebuild it, you must change the 'Double Layer' profile to 'DVD-R DL' (It defaults to DVD+R DL).

This is on the 'Advanced' -> 'Media' tab within Build mode.

If you burn on the fly rather than going to an image file, this should all be automatic.

Remember to change the profile back when you're done with DVD-R DL and move onto DVD+R DL.

I did it and I didn't have any problems in writting the DVD. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about playing the DVD in my standalone DVD player. The DVD plays fine in my PC but in my standalone player it plays fine only the first layer I suppose, cause when I try to go to a chapter near the end of the movie it freezes! Do you thing with the DVD+R DL the playback problem will be solved??

More than likely. -R DL are really not a good choice. Setting the LB is very problematic as you are required to burn to the end of the disk.

Try returning them and tell them you meant to buy +R instead.

And don't forget to set the booktype to DVDROM on +Rs.
