Will3th Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 ImgBurn does not work with my PATA burner. I tried versions 2.5.5, 2.5.6 and 2.5.7 final. All lock my PC. I have a new motherboard with AMD 990FX chipset and Phenom II CPU. The BIOS is updated. The S.O. is Win XP SP3. The chipset drivers are updated. The RAM is 4GB. I have an LG burner SATA (AHCI) and it works perfectly. The Samsung SH-S182M PATA drive (latest firmware), connected to the system in UltraDMA mode does not work. Just insert a disc and ImgBurn reports "Getting RAW TOC information ..." or "Getting booktype ..." and Windows crashes. I am forced to shut down by pressing the power button. In PIO mode setting works but only 1X speed. Other softwares, including demos, work perfectly UltraDMA: BurnAware, Nero, EAC, Poweriso, CDBurner, etc., are all OK. Thanks
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 So you can load the program just fine when there's no disc in the drive? If so, please do so. Then, switch to Write mode, right click the drive selection box and click 'Family Tree'. Press CTRL+C to copy the contents of the prompt to your clipboard and the CTRL+V (paste) them into a reply. If it's freezing on certain commands then a driver or filter driver must have a problem with that command. The program isn't doing anything wrong here, something about your OS install is just unable to process the commands properly.
Will3th Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 That's it! Hey, I set ImgBurn in English, but "Family Tree" speaks Italian like me ... Ok, copied and pasted all over --------------------------- ImgBurn --------------------------- Device: [0:0:0] TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M SB06 (E:) (ATA) Family Tree: -> PC multiprocessore ACPI -> Sistema compatibile ACPI Microsoft -> Bus PCI -> Adattatore PCI standard da PCI a PCI (VEN_1002&DEV_5A1C - ATI - pci - v5.1.2600.5512) -> Controller standard PCI IDE (VEN_1106&DEV_0415 - VIA - pciide - v5.1.2600.5512) -> Canale primario IDE -> Unità CD-ROM (TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182M) (0) --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Thanks
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Is that VIA chipset controller actually on your motherboard or is it a plug in card? IDE is pretty much phased out now - Intel dropped it from their boards years ago. What made you get a new board and then stick with an old IDE drive rather than an SATA one you could run natively off the chipset? Not all plug in cards are optical drive friendly - ones that aren't have issues like the one you're seeing.
Will3th Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 (edited) No, no plug-in card ... The Samsung burner is connected directly to the PATA IDE port on motherboard... The chipset: - Northbridge: AMD 990FX - Southbridge: AMD SB950 I just installed "AMD all in 1 driver ver: 8.70a_WHQL". ... and do not forget that other softwares work perfectly ... Thanx Edited April 10, 2012 by Will3th
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Other software working perfectly doesn't really mean anything. Your system shouldn't be freezing - sure, ImgBurn is triggering it but it's not the problem. As far as I can tell, the 990FX and SB950 do not have native support for IDE now - that's why your drive is running from a Via controller. Installing AMD/ATI drivers wouldn't do anything for your VIA controller. Installing the Via IDE Falcon drivers might do though. http://www.viaarena.com/displaydrivers.aspx?PageID=1&OSID=1...OSID=1&CatID=1180&SubCatID=116 Beyond that, I can't help you I'm afraid. EDIT: Actually, before I call it a day, post up your filter driver list please - use the feature in the 'Tools' menu.
Will3th Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 I just checked on VIA Support Forum. I found this: "The drivers for the VT6330 chipset are already integrated into Windows O.S. No downloading is needed ..." So now it is all clear. I'm sorry. Thanks for everything.
