Burning onto a CD and verify was about to start when a message popped up reading Verify Failed: Layouts do not match.

Try burning at the other supported write speeds - 10x and 16x.

 

If that doesn't work you could try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc or buying some better media - Taiyo Yuden make the best CDs, I wouldn't use anything else.
