testfile69 Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Hey guys (I'm from Germany so I hope I you can unterstand me), I've got a problem with using ImgBurn some hours ago. I tried to burn an ISO to a DVD. When I started the burning process, the program asked me if i wanted to format the DVD. I accepted, which turned out to be a mistake. The burning process held at "Erasing Disc" and started to take time. I was waiting about 25 minutes when I decided to abort the process. Unfortunately, the program denied. Also, I couldn't eject the DVD, so I had to terminate the program with the Task-Manager. After that, somehow, I managed to open the device. But now, my burner isn't working anymore :-( I restarted the computer and even de- and reactivated the whole device, but it isn't reading DVDs anymore. When I'm clicking on the icon in the explorer window, it just tells me "Please insert a Data Carrier" (or something like this, I freely translated) and opens my notebook drive. ImgBurn isn't noticing any inserted DVD anymore, too. Do you have any idea what I could do now? I just used the program one time before, which worked well. ImgBurn.log
LIGHTNING UK! Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Was there no sign of progress during the erase/format? It usually shows a % complete. Terminating the process loses the log as it doesn't get a chance to write it out nicely when the app closes. Remove the disc from the drive, turn the machine off again, remove the power lead and remove the battery. Leave it for 30 seconds and then put the battery back in, followed by the power lead. Turn it on and boot to Windows. Load ImgBurn, switch to Write mode and and press the F8 key (to enable I/O debug mode). Now insert a disc - it might be best to start with an original DVD-ROM disc. The message in the status bar at the bottom of the main window should change as it tries to initialise the disc. Once it has finished and settled on state of readiness, press F8 again and then click File -> Save As in the Log window. Save the log to a file and attach it.
testfile69 Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 (edited) OK, here you are. I had to restart the PC another time, because my keyboard had problems, but then I was able to login and start ImgBurn. Unfortunalely, it's still not working. I created a log, which is a bit crazy, cause it constantly repeated itself every second while I were in the write mode. Only changes were when I openend the device to insert the DVD - an original DVD, of course - and closed it. I hope you can do anything with this. Note: I accidentially started the debug mode outside the write mode, so I had to deactivate it an re-activated it in the write-mode. ImgBurn2.log Edited July 1, 2012 by testfile69
LIGHTNING UK! Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 It looks like the drive is dead. It's correctly showing the tray being opened/closed and the drive trying to initialise the disc...but then it just reports there's no disc present. Do you have any sort of warranty on the computer?
testfile69 Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 :-( And I just wanted to burn a DVD. I don't exactly know about warranty, I will see. Otherwise I'll have to buy an USB-Device... but anyway, thanks for your help.
