Hey,

I have a problem by burning a multi-session Blu-ray Disc.

Weather from image or "Master"-BD-R...

When loading the image (with 5 sessions), the error message "Initialise_Layout failed!" pops up.

I read another topic, in which this problem was solved by using first the read, and then the write mode.

But in that issue, it was about a "normal" CD.

Now, my issues is about Blu-ray.

When using the read mode with the BD-R (burnt within 5 sessions), the error message "Sorry, using Read mode to create image file from a multi-session BD-R disc is not currently supported."

So, is ImgBurn going to support such issues in future or are there already some updates, which I do not have?

If this feature will work in future, is there some date announced or contemplated?

I think, the log file wouldn't help in any way, because the errors arent' mentioned there. So, I attached screen shots of the to pop-up messages.

Best regards.

Which program made your multiple session image in the first place? Obviously it wasn't ImgBurn as Read mode doesn't support doing that from anything other than CDs. Also, only 3 image formats would return that error - CCD, CDI and CUE. CCD and CUE are just for CDs, I'm not sure about CDI but it's pretty much a dead format now that Padus has vanished.

I personally feel that if you're going to make a copy of a disc and that disc has multiple sessions on it (with the exception of an Enhanced CD/CD Extra disc) that it's better to do what ImgBurn suggests and make a nice clean single session image based on what's currently visible to the OS based on the file system of the last session. For that reason (and because I'm lazy), I can't see things changing.

You're only using an old OS there (XP), but normally I'd just say to use the drag+drop explorer style burning built into Windows Vista/7 if you want to do multisession burning.

Wow, thanks for the quick response.

Well, I created the master disc with Nero BurningROM. It's a data disc. Because of several complications at trying to get a multi-session image, I had to use DiscJuggler and created a .cdi-Image.

I need this special multi-session disc, there's no chance to use clean single session copies of that.

What possibilities do you think I have now, as long as the cdi-image does not serve as the copy-master.

By the way, DiscJuggler also can't burn this cdi-image. While writing the third of five session, an error occurs.

And, what? Padus vanished? So they won't reply to my support e-mail...

Am I able to burn the data directly on ImgBurn, and get from there a better working multi-session-image?

Or what did you just mean whith the "drag+drop explorer style burning built"? Is it something like, let's say "live-burning"?

It should be an image...

Thanks

Sorry, could you explain why the disc needs to be multisession? The more I understand about what you're doing, the easier it is for me to help you.

The file system in the last session will contain a list of all the files on the disc that you've wanted it to contain - even from the previous sessions. So you won't lose anything from any of them. The only time I could see that being a problem is if you're manually referencing specific things in the file systems of previous sessions within a program on the disc.... I don't know, as some sort of weird copy protection or something.

Padus.com is basically dead, so yeah, I'd say Padus / DiscJuggler are long gone and they won't be replying to your emails any time soon (ever).

In Windows Vista / 7 you can drag+drop files to a dvd/bd writer drive in Explorer and then when you browse to it and click 'Burn to disc', it'll prompt you to create a normal disc (which is left open so you can add to it later - i.e. multisession), or you can create a live disc - which the OS treats more like a giant floppy disc. You'd want the 'normal' option for normal multisession burning. XP does basically the same thing but it only supports doing it for CDs.

Well, I would like to have disc with multiple session for some testing reasons. Shortly expressed for testing other drives, if they are able to read multi-session discs (last session closed and not closed).

Its' less about the data of the session, it's more about the sessions themselves..

I can create such discs by using a new project every time. But I'm still not able to duplicate discs. And furthermore the copies should be identical in case of some warranty reasons. So burning from an image might be the solution, as long as this is actually doable.

Is there anywhere an announcement of Padus? I just see that their homepage is shut down.

Your suggestion with Windows Vista / 7:

I think I also would have to burn every single discs separatley, not? And, how mentioned yet, I'm able to do this separately, but I'm aiming for an improved dulication process.

And I think I wouldn't be able to close (or close not) the last session then.

So, ImgBurn can't handle that cdi-Image. But I also cannot build up a new image with ImgBurn (writing the data in these several sessions) for my issue, right?

I haven't seen any announcement from Padus, no. I guess they just fizzled out over time and the website being removed kinda says it all.

My suggestion for Vista/7 was just in reference to generic/general multi-session burning. ImgBurn doesn't do it so you'd need another way... and that's one of them.

Sorry, I don't know how you'd go about creating a faithful duplicate of your multisession disc.

Most of the time, the drives do weird things on DVD/BD media when it comes to multi-session. I've seen it where you only really ever have 2. Anything before the last session gets merged into 1.

So... session 1 and 2 are normal. Add a 3rd and 1+2 join to become 1, then 3 gets added as 2. Add a 4th and 1+2+3 join to become 1, then 4 gets added as 2 etc. Sometimes the TOC only reports 1 session full stop - but the 'Track Information' shows multiple tracks which are basically the different sessions.

You can see all that info in the Disc Information box on the right when you're in Read mode. (copy + paste it here if you like)

You're right there, about 2 sessions...

I currently tried to burn the .cdi-image with CDBurnerXP. There was no error mentioned, but the disc is surely not a copy of that image.

Ok. DiscJuggler stopped the writing process because it was "unable to seek track 3 of 5".

I'm going to have another try with maybe only 2 multiple sessions...

Thank you for your help and ideas so far!
