gm_matthew Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I've been trying to create a cue/bin image of an old PC game called Pinball World, but unfortunately the read failed with "L-EC Uncorrectable Error" when trying to read sector 24116. Every subsequent sector of the CD comes up with the same error. I originally decided the CD was faulty and tried ripping from another copy of the game. However, the reading starts to fail at exactly the same sector! I tried ripping the CD using a different program; yet again it failed at sector 24116, so ImgBurn is not to blame. Also, I had previously ripped the CD with ImgBurn on a different PC successfully. I highly doubt that both CDs are damaged at exactly the same point, so I suspect that my CD drive may be failing. If anyone can give me some advice, for example if I just need to clean the drive or if I need to go to a repair shop, that would be great. Please excuse me if this post is out of place, I thought this forum would be a good place to ask for help. ImgBurn.log
LIGHTNING UK! Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 There's a firmware update available for your drive. http://www.firmwarehq.com/Samsung/SH-222AB/files.html Nobody could tell you that cleaning the drive WILL fix the problem, you'd just have to try it and see. If you can undo a screw and plug in a cable, you don't need a repair shop for replacing an optical drive. Get one from somewhere online and fit it yourself.
