I have some new vertabim BD-RE DLs that I wanted to format. I stuck one in my Lite-on (iHBS112) and one in my LG (WH12LS38) and selected "ERASE>FULL" and got VERY different results (see logs at end of this posting). Lite-on was done in 1hr 33 minutes, LG took 4hr 17 minutes. Both are new burners capable of 2x BD-RE DL burns. Can anyone take a stab why such different results? Can I format these on the Lite-on and use them on the LG?

Will the new firmware fix the problem? Is the LG's time the expected time for this size and type of disc? Thanks for your reply

Funny thing, I burned the same movie onto both discs and only the one formatted by the Lite-on was recognized by my PS3...

Also, I successfully VERIFIED the burn with imgburn on the unrecognized LG formatted disc...I think I need some help.

I don't know if it will fix that problem... or if it's even a problem at all. LiteOn may have just decided to implement the format command differently.

Yes, the time taken by the LG is normal for full certification. The drive's own full certification process should take slightly longer than the zeroing sectors part - thereby at least doubling the time it takes for the entire 'full erase' / format process.
