from what you posted , its very hard to tell .

was you doing a build and burn , or write mode ?

if you could post a full log it may help us more , also, it will show us more of whats going on in the whole process. it needs to be a FULL log please

your supported write speed for those discs are 4x so you cant burn them at 8x even though your burner may be an 8x drive

 

try turning buffer recovery off in settings, see if it helps you with the buffer message

'try getting some better media too

Something to check would be to see if your source HD and your burner share an IDE channel. This would certainly bottleneck the burn process.

 

Also, update your firmware. The latest version for your drive can be found here: http://support.benq.com/files/storage/Firm...W/DQ60/MREC.zip

If your hdd can't even sustain 4x write speed, something is definitely wrong.

 

Check for cable sharing as mentioned by Shamus (get hdd + burner on different IDE channels) and use the 80 wire IDE cable.

 

Then follow the DMA stuff / post in the FAQ.

 

Once you've deleted + reinstalled the IDE controller, the hdd should probably register as UDMA 5 or 6 and the burner as UDMA 2 or 4.

get better media to start with .Those discs are a step above pure crap .Buy some Verbatim or Taiyo Yudens

and eliminate the media as the source of your problem

Ok, I'll suggest my dad to replace the medium he buys (my dad buys them, not me).

 

And I don't remember if they're sharing IDE cables. I recently replaced my DVD drive as the old one stopped burning discs. But I believe I had it so my two HDDs were on one cable and my DVD drive on the other.

Laughing Man, No matter what the packaging states on burn speed of medium, your burner must sense that its safe to only burn at certain speeds and which is what Img is reporting in her log. Another possibility is that the packaging is mislabeled, but I rather doubt that. :/

Yeah, haven't had the time to check if it was on a seperate IDE cable though. I think it is though because I remember I set my primary HDD to master and secondary HDD to slave.

 

Edit: it can read at 8x though. Probably doesn't mean much though.

You're right. It doesn't mean anything. Burn speed is not only dictated by the media but also by the drives' firmware. The media might be rated at 8x but if the firmware is a bit dicky (like it is in one of my drives) it might only support burning that particular media at 4x or 6x.

I had the same problem with a really slow DVD burn.

The ImgBurn folks solved the problem for me.

It turned out that Windows XP slows down the disks turning them from DMA to PIO without you knowing it.

PIO mode limits the drive speed to 2x. If your speed is above this (such as the original posters' question), it's not a DMA problem. The reason his drive wouldn't go above 4x is shown is this part of their logfile.

As you can see above, the maximum rated speed for this media is 4x and the reason for the slow burn.
