Have you tried all of the speeds the drive claims to support on those discs?

Have you tried better quality discs? (Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden)

Have you tried cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc?

If you have, yes, the drive is probably toast - but that's not bad considering it could be 8 years old now almost.

The Lite-On is a cd-rom only from DELL and the BenQ 1620 is a DVD+/- RW Burner, I have done about 800 burns with it on all various media since 2004. Just cleaned the drive with a Maxell cd cleaning disc, still no luck. I even un-installed the IDE's from XP Device manager and rebooted to freshly install them. It will rip fine but not burn...sad as this drive was great compared to the crappy Phillips OEM that came with the Dell Tower. I tried to burn at various speeds as well. 16x, 8x, and 4x to no avail.
