JDM_DOHC
I was told there were some pretty intelligent people on these forums so hopefuly someone can decipher this for me and yes I know this is not an XB forum so I'll keep my questions related to ImgBurn (unless anyone knows how the two correlate and has any factual information) I'm all ears.. So first off, I've had very successful burns while using ImgBurn and this specific drive for the past few years and yes I know my drive is old and the media I'm using is new, but I'm not sure if the old drives current error pertains to the new media I'm using, as to why I'm posting here today... I have always used MKM001 Verbatim Disc's and had a very high success rate, well I went and bought a pack of MKM003's (made in Singapore) and on the very first disc this was my error and I'm not quite sure why... If it's because of my drive, I also have a Lite-On DH16YAH-Y13 that is a dual layer burner and I could try that but trying to avoid creating too many coasters.. I'm in the Marine Corps. and it's hard for me to take trips to Best Buy when I'm in the middle of no where, and I'm an Intelligence Officer so my packages and shipments I recieve aren't the typical 3-5 day thing (can take weeks sometimes for me to physically get a package), so basically just trying to work with what I've got.. Thanks in advance.. I 18:54:30 ImgBurn Version 2.5.7.0 started! LIGHTNING UK!
The firmware for your BenQ drive doesn't support the MKM-003-00 MID. The Lite-On looks like it does though... but you should put the latest firmware on it. http://www.firmwarehq.com/Lite-On/DH-16AYH/files.html I'm afraid I can't tell you that it'll work 100% perfectly, I have no control over such things. It's all down to the drive/firmware/media combo.
JDM_DOHC
Thank you for your feedback.. I went ahead and gave it a shot on the Lite-On (which from what I was told is an iHas equivelant - or a rebadged Optiarc AD-724xS (related series: LiteOn iHASx24 Y drives) and the disc burned properly.. It did say some error in the beginning of the process but it kept on going, and plays perfectly.. Only thing is, it was an XGD2 game which needed the LayerBreak to be set @ 1913760, and for my XGD3 backup, it requires LayerBreak to be set @ 2133520.. Could this potentially cause a write error or was that error primarily because my other burner wasn't MKM-003 capable..?? ps - should I update the firmware even if I'm having success, and can I revert back if I do have issues..?? ^^^^ u may not know since this isn't a Verbatim forum or Lite-On forum, but if u do I'd greatly appreciate it.. thanks.. log from ImgBurn ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.5.7.0 - Log ; Monday, 22 October 2012, 15:24:19 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 14:54:26 ImgBurn Version 2.5.7.0 started! LIGHTNING UK!
Going by this thread... http://club.myce.com/f44/what-drive-atapi-dh16ayh-233245 ...your drive is a Lite-On 165H6S. That would make more sense as it's far too old to be an Optiarc 724x one. Setting the layerbreak to '2133520' isn't physically possible with that drive, it'll just error out if you try. It won't cause a 'Write Error' though. The one you got with the BenQ drive was just because it didn't support the MKM-003-00 MID and couldn't write to the discs very well/at all. It's up to you if you update the firmware. I don't know exactly what changed with the newer versions but I typically always run the latest of everything. You can backup your current firmware easy enough using the LiteOn flasher tool from the MyCE forums and flash it back later if you don't like the newer one. JDM_DOHC
And for the Y14 update that is offered it said it fixes an issue where it doesn't properly read recovery discs but I've never had that problem, and I've upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, deleting off my Windows Vista partition and that is one of the requirements as well so I don't think it'd let me do the update if I tried.. JDM_DOHC
Since most of the newer games are XGD3 I'm probably just going to buy myself a iHAS124-04B if I can find it for a fairly reasonable price..
