Right in need of help. . . Im using a 524b drive with burnermax fw. Using Mkm003 singapore disc. Config img burn and eeprom settings following the guide . Tried Opc on & off burned at 2.4 & 4 . Buffer set between 80 -512mb burn proof is disabled . Ive tried with smart burn on OHT off HT on & off OSB off. All possible veriations. Ive re installed imgburn. Re installed drivers for drive. Re flashed drive. Etc cleared OPC data every burn then power cycled. And yet my disc STILL Fails. I had x3 different errors

1. Logical unit timed out - invalid write address (most common failior)

2. Bogus drive error dectected (only had once)

3. Burn successful but failed to verify at 44%

Tried this with different ISO files and tired different verb mkm003 discs from diff spindles.

Now the weired thing is the burner is 1 months old burnt 5 disc before with nothing but perferct burns then one day burn failed twice then burnt ok third time round. Then nothing but fails again and occassionally ill get a good burn again.

Also tried burning in safe mode. This is where i get the verification fail error .

Only have one thing left to try and thats to disconnect my other drive in case of conflict but other than that im stumped and possible think the drives defective (burns other media with no problems though)

Will post a few burn logs when im back at home but im sure youve seen these types of errors before to understand which ones.

Any help would be great.

Mine worked best with OPC off, Force HyperTuning on, Online HyperTuning off, Overspeed off, SmartBurn on and burning at 4x.

Once you've configure the program/drive like that, clear opc history (in the same place as the hypertuning options) and then burn again.

Post a new with that configuration.

The bogus driver error probably means you've got the drive installed on a bad controller. Stick to using the proper Intel one if you have such a thing on your motherboard.

Ok will give it ago with the new settings and post log and results later when im home from work.

Could the drive be bad? Or conflicting with other drive??

My comp is controlled by Nvidia chipset which i made sure were upto date. Ill double check that too.

So after computer decided to go crazy had to restore to earlier stage.Disconnected other drive. Re installed drivers for ihas drive run a lense clearner through (just incase). Re installed imgburn again. Re configured imgburn and eeprom with your settings cleared OPC and power cycled.

And burnt successfully ,verified and got these readings from kprobe2

PI 59 avg 1.43

PIF 3 avg 0.25

So all is well .... Will post back when second burn has done. To see if fixed once n for all.

Posted

Ok second burn done and again successfull.

Results are so so but still burnt with no errors

PI 193 avg 3.69

PIF 6 avg 0.22

Pif only just outside and The PI Highest were at layerbreak. So guessin thats still ok?.

Looks like probem solved ?

Also to mention i noticed burn proof is enabled.

Thanks for advice hope i have no more problems

Can you post the ImgBurn log and the kprobe graph itself please.

Those values still look a little high to me. Different spindles can produce different results though and even that place that makes the discs can make a difference. The ones from Singapore seem to be the best.

When i brought these discs i brought x2 packs of 10 mkm003 discs (Verb code 43666) Singapore right ??? thats what they were advertised as.

I've had them with the little higher error rate section at the start like that, but yours seem to be a bit rough around the outer edge of the disc (the layer break point and where it does the 'overburning'). It does vary from spindle to spindle (I usually buy from a few different places).

All of this stuff (burn quality etc) is at a level beyond where software has any control or say in the matter, but you might want to go for another clear of the opc history before trying your next one.

I've also seen flashing back to the standard firmware (resets something in the eeprom I think) and then putting the modified one back on again can help. Just don't forget to then double check the drive/eeprom hypertuning etc options again before making yet another burn :)

Posted (edited)

The disc i got were from Ebay. Always following the rule of clearing the OPC and a power cycle before a burn. As for settings i'll stick with whats working untill problems arise. Im not one for online gaming so guessing the PI & PIF Providing within tollerence should be fine?

But for now im hoping thats the last of the errors for now. Thanks for your help n advice

You don't need to clear opc each time, just the once.

After configuring the drive's eeprom with the settings I told you, I didn't touch anything and just kept getting good burns after that.

Take a look at this post in a thread where I did 12 burns in a row from the same spindle.

This is the same i got on the verification. Any idea what causes this?

I didnt know that u didnt have to clear OPC everytime many forums suggest this

Posted

What causes it is the drive doing a bad job of burning the discs ('CMC MAG-D01-00' MID/dye in that specific case). It burnt it and then couldn't read it back.

It took something like 7 burns to find settings that just kept working. Once I'd found them, I didn't do / touch anything and each disc just came out fine.

Posted

Right so it wasnt anything to do with poor settings just a bad write. I have a few others lined up ready for burning will see how those turn out and post them results up also.

Posted

Settings don't really give you bad burns, there's nothing the program itself can do to make them better/worse as burning is controlled 100% by the drive. The firmware / chipset in the drive are what deals with all of that stuff.

So Here is the result from the next burn.

Well The results peaked at layer break, abit of a spike at start guessing this is ok very simiar to previous burns. What you think? Any suggestion of tweaks to better these results further?

Have you done what I said about flashing back to the official LiteOn firmware and then putting the modified one back on again?

After that I'd just try buying another spindle of 10 discs from elsewhere.

yea flashed back to org then back to modified fw seems to be the same. When these discs runs out ill get some more from else where any suggestions to get the mkm003?

I re went over those logs of yours in the settings you have a device buffer of 40mb (only difference between our settings ??) But you got pretty good results. Would it make much of a difference if mines set to the 512mb?

The buffer makes no difference.... like most of the settings people go on about changing in order to improve burn quality. By giving the app more for a write buffer (which it probably won't make use of) you're simply taking it away from the rest of the machine/software.

They don't seem to realise that the drive handles all this stuff internally. It doesn't matter what OS/software you're running, how much buffer you give the program, or even which computer the drive is attached to... the burn quality will always be the same (assuming it has enough of everything to reach its full potential that is).

Burn quality comes from your drive/firmware/media combo.

So in theroy someone who has same drive with same firmware using the same discs (from same spindle) Like burning same media etc would have similar to almost identical results ?

Posted

It would have to be the exact same drive... as in YOUR drive!

There are tolerance levels with these things and calibration data is stored within the eeprom I believe - that's why you should only ever restore your own copy. It's like how you get CPUs and graphics cards that can be overclocked more than others.

Different (but same model) drives can and will behave differently. They shouldn't be that different, but they can be. Same goes for the discs (even within a spindle). The only common thing here really is the firmware itself!

So back to getting better results would most certainly be down to either different discs or drive. Will see the out come after new batch og discs . Cheers
