akaKJB Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I'm using the current version of ImgBurn with a Buffalo BR-X816U2 external blu-ray drive (the actual internal hardware is supposedly an HG drive). It recognizes 50GB Dual Layer BR discs just fine but every time I try to burn something on them I get an error message that reads "IO ERROR", followed by error messages that "SK Interpretation: Medium Error" and "ASC/ASCQ Interpretation: Power Calibration Failure" (sorry I don't have screen shots but I couldn't get it to work). The error happens almost immediately and nothing appears to be getting written to the drive. I'm sure this probably isn't a software error but after seeing some similar problems and potential fixes posted, I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm using Philips BD-R DL media and the error comes up on every disc in the spindle. I've tried a couple other burning programs with no luck. A user here commenteg that he'd changed the HyperTuning settings but the program gives me an error message "Invalid Field in CDB" when I attempt to use the Advanced Tools for the drive. I did check for new firmware and there appears to be a fairly recent (July, 2012) firmware update but the installer it's bundled with can't find the drive. Pulling up the drive stats in ImgBurn, it doesn't even have BDR DL writing / reading as an option, ticked box or not (it does show BDR "XL", whatever that is). Nero Info Tool shows BDR DL AND BDRE DL as read / write options, however. I am close to shooting myself in the brain over this one. I am completely stumped. Dual Layer BD-R's are tad too pricey to just toss and every piece of documentation for this unit says it SHOULD write these disks, albeit at a max speed of 2X. Many thanks in advance. KJB
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Can you post the log please - as per the pink box up the top
akaKJB Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Sorry - didn't put those two things together and even think about the log. The way the boxes lay out on my screen winds up hiding the log box a lot of the time. LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Try the newer firmware update and see if it add/improves support for the 'CMCMAG-DI6-000' discs you're using. http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/BH10NS30/files.html As yours is a Buffalo version of LG's BH10NS30, you may need to 'crossflash' the drive using Devilclaw's flasher program. If you want to do that (it's certainly worth a try), ask the nice people in the LG forum over the MyCE forums for help - http://club.myce.com/f91/ The HyperTuning option you tried to access is a feature only found on LiteOn drives, yours is an LG - hence why it failed to work. Oh and you know you're burning next to nothing there yeah? Don't waste a 50GB disc on 2MB of data!
akaKJB Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 Oh yeah, I knew that was nothing for data. It was just a quick file to grab to show the error. It also shows that it doesn't matter what the size of the file is, it's just not going to burn. I couldn't find the crossflash program and with the LG updater not finding the drive, I was stumped. Many thanks for the help! I'll let you know what happens. BTW - have used Imgburn for ages and have always loved it. Don't know what I'd do without it. KJB
