Hi all

When I am backing up Dvd's I have always ripped to file and then burned using Dvd Decrypter or with Nero. I pretty much always get a good burn. However as more people are using and recomending ImgBurn I thought I should give it a try.

I took a previously backed up Dvd (to save mucking about with compresssion) and ripped to iso. then burned to a +RW disc using ImgBurn. Great, no problem. So then I try it with one of my -R discs and it fails, and again, and again. Yet when I use the same discs and do it the way I mentioned previously it's consistently good. I have used the same discs for ages with no problems with my burner.....just when using ImgBurn

Does anyone know if ImgBurn is media sensitive or have any other suggestions......

Thanks

Al

P.s. Don't use ImgBurn is not the suggestion I was looking for but maybe the option I have to take.

Any chance of a full log from ImgBurn so that we can see exactly what's going on ? It will save the lot of us asking 100 questions ! :)

If you have been changing the settings it would be worth your while restoring the defaults - they really do work best for 99% of people :)

Hmm a 'Write Error' in test mode... good effort!

You might do well to find out the real model of that OEM LiteOn and use its firmware instead. OEM's tend not to do updates.

I've never seen GSC media before but it certainly wouldn't hurt for you to try some decent 'known' (+ tried & tested) brands such as Verbatim MCC and Taiyo Yuden.

Hmmm......You just brought something to my attention, thought I was buying Ritek G03 but it looks like I've got some cheap knock-off junk.

Grrrrr.......not happy.

However the same discs have been burning ok using the original post over 20 and only 1 failed burn.....odd.

Not really, dye quality, manufacturing processes and a world of other issues make questionable media a definite no-no. The odds are that if you keep the discs you made for a year they may be totally unreadable due to dye degredation and whatever else the dvd gods have in store to plague us mere mortals.... :/

Buy the good stuff (TY or Verb DataLifePlus) and at least hold your own against them... :boxing:

Just been on the phone to the supplier of the cheap knock off junk, they were very surprised. But not so surprised they're sending me 2x50 spindles of Verbatims without asking me for more info or to return the unused discs. They were at it and got caught with their pants down. Can anyone reccomend a good UK internet suplier of quality media as I won't be using them anymore.

Many thanks for all your help and if I have any problems with the decent media I shall re post

Having gone through the pack I have now discovered there are 3 different brands in it a very few Ritek GO5's, some infomediar20 (junk) and Gigacorp GC03( makes the infomediar look like TY). I want to post the store name but don't know if it will contravene forum rules.

Many thanks to all for helping, if I'd read my logs thoroughly I would have seen the problem. Just presumed I was using what I ordered..

sorry to hear about your troubles with media ,I think and the forum members will back me up if its not Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden discs then its a gamble .To have found 3 different media ID's is a rip off company at work .You can name the company we name the good companys so naming the rip off artists is fair play.

those discs are Gigastorage discs and if you Google the disc ID the reviews are negative

Company's name was priceless computing, they are based in Glasgow, Scotland (Thieving Con-Men). Updated my firmware, fantastic, now rips at record speed. Pinched a Verbatim off a friend and got a perfect burn (although I did also with a GENUINE RitekG05).

Many thanks again for all your halp and assistance.

P.s I might be teaching you all to suck eggs but if any of you use DVDShrink and are experiencing a slowdown a firmware update on your Dvd seems to fix it, my encoding times have dropped by about 2/3 since I did it. Also if you register on the DVD Forum

Cheers all and Happy Burning :P

More like Worthless Computing! :D

GENUINE RitekG05
Steer clear of these - they have manufacturing defects and are quite variable in quality.
