The automatic write speed exceeds the advertised speed of BD-R

When set to AWS, the BD-R got written at speeds ranging from 7x to 10x. However the maximum speed indicated on the disk is 4x. Why is this happening? Would this affect the quality and reliability of the recordings? Should I set it to 2x or 4x?

AWS is a feature YOU have to configure (check the Guides). If you don't, the program just tells the drive to burn at the maximum speed it supports for that media. Hence the reason it says '(MAX)' next to where AWS is selected in the 'Write Speed' drop down box.

If your drive supports burning at 10x on 4x media then that's down to the drive's manufacturer. All that stuff is controlled by the firmware and no program can make the drive do something it doesn't want to do.

The only way to find out the optimal speed for burning certain discs in a certain drive is to burn a disc or two at each speed and then scan them in a drive that supports scanning (LiteOn drives do) and see which ones have the lowest number of errors.

That said, if you don't fancy messing with all that, just stick to the speeds you mentioned.
