can not burn dvd's in windows 8

Everything was working fine on windows 7. I upgraded to windows 8 and have not been able to burn a dvd. I was using anydvd along with clonedvd and it was like taking 3 hours to burn a dvd but when It was done the disc would be unreadable. I burned the same file with the same software on another computer and it worked fine. I tried different dvds. So I am thinking its a bad burner so I go out and buy a new one. The new one burns the dvd in like 8 minutes but disc still bad. I figured ok, software might not be working with windows 8. I install imgburn and it seems to write ok but disc still fails. I don't know what else to try. anyone have any ideas? I will try to attach the log file for my last attempt.

Tried the 6x or 8x write speed?

 

Could also be that the quality of the discs are not regarded very high.

Post the Family Tree info please.

 

You can find that by right clicking on the drive selection box and picking the 'Family Tree' option off the context menu. Just close the prompt and then copy+paste it all from the Log window.

update. I uninstalled Imgburn and installed Nero 12 and it burned cd and dvd ok so it looks like its a software problem working with windows 8 64 bit system.

You may think it looks that way, but it isn't.

so if not a software problem what would it be? tried different discs, tried different dvd burner, made sure drivers are all up to date, tried burning at slower speeds... did I miss anything?

Until you provide me with the info I asked for (in post #4), I can't really begin to help.

 

Also, what you may think are 'different' discs could end up being exactly the same thing but with a different brand name stamped on them.

Going back to the disc the log in post # 1 belongs to, what happens if you put it back in the drive now?

 

When you're back on the main 'Write' mode screen (or if you're in 'Build' mode, look on the 'Device' tab), what does it list in the disc info box on the right? Copy + paste it all please.

 

At the moment, your drive seems to be going through the entire process of burning the disc (and is reporting 'success' the entire time), but the resulting disc still appears to be blank.

 

AMD controllers/drivers can do weird things to optical drives and as their Windows 8 drivers are probably quite immature, I have even less faith in them than normal.

 

If you have any decent Verbatim (MCC or MKM mid/dye) or Taiyo Yuden discs, please post another log from when you've burnt those at 8x.

just to give an update. I did a registry clean and found 1 driver that there was an update for. After doing those 2 things I am able to burn dvd's now. thank you for all your help
