Followed the tutorial re: making a windows 7 disk from folders - all settings as per advice. Did an emulation first and all appeared to go fine, then tried an actual burn, and 3 disks ( one a - and 2 + format ) all stopped shortly after buffer reached 94% and burn had just started. Attached screenshot shows exact error message. Any ideas please ? TYIApost-51692-0-16632300-1358975008_thumb.jpg

Your drive seems to have some problem with the discs you're using.

TYG02 are normally excellent (assuming they aren't fake) so I'm not sure why it's having problems!

If it's failed on a few different discs, it's probably more the drive than the media. Try cleaning it with a cleaning disc (or manually if you're careful).

Hmm, just bought the drive today, as the original (Dell unit) was duff - would only read DVD but not write anything at all. This new drive burned some other stuff OK, such as pics, and sound files etc ( not va imageburn though :-) )

Ill try a few more times with different disks. Ta.

Thanks for quick response BTW

How did you end up buying a drive today that has firmware dating back to 2006?! eBay I guess :)

I can see in the log that it's changing its mind about the supported write speeds for the TYG02 media.

I 18:09:17 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: TYG02)

I 18:09:17 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 2x, 4x

I 18:27:00 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: TYG02)

I 18:27:00 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x

That's never a good sign.

Have you tried the 'MCC-004-00' discs at 8x?

Well half a dozen coasters later, and I managed a full burn ( manually set @8X speed ).

Upon verifying, I have read errors ( 40 errors after 3% verification done so far ). How many should I expect?/

Im just gonna clean the lens now with cotton bud and isopropol alcohol.

Given up, 6 more coasters, some quite expensive branded verbatim, and memorex, in both + and - versions.....and still not a successful burn / verify. One time it said could not close the disk properly, another failed to finish the burn, and others, although completed, failed the verify with hundreds of read errors :-(

Ive asked fora refund on the drive, but oddly the drive I replaced had the exact same problems, so Im wondering if its another issue?

Also oddly, neither drive will recognize a commercially prerecorded DVD disk >:p

(Tried james may toy stories, and also david gilmour live at the albert hall )

Well, you could try burning in safe mode or booting into Windows XP via Hiren's Boot disc and try it from within that.

If it still fails, you've either got a 2nd duff drive or some weird controller issue. I don't know which chipset your laptop ( ? ) uses, but I know some Intel 67 ones had issues with the 3gbps ports until they released the B3 revision of it.

Hi.

Well finally got a clean burn and full error free verification ( DVD+ RW Verbatim disc ) at  2x speed despite the disc label claiming 16X.

Just installed the OS on another test machine to ensure that all is well before I format and do fresh install on this lappy and it seems fine.

Thanks for your help.
