gmatting Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Have used ImgBurn for years without problem until today. Burning a back-up copy of a new Blu-Ray disk, but ImgBurn locks up my computer before the burn starts. I have a Pioneer BDR-205 drive that has functioned flawlessly for me. I am using Philips BD-RDL 50gb 6x dual-layer disks that I have also used before without problem. Thinking I might have encountered a bad disk, I tried a second one - same problem. Here's my log: I 20:06:17 Destination Device: [0:0:0] PIONEER BD-RW BDR-205 1.12 (E:) (SATA) I 20:06:17 Destination Media Type: BD-R (Disc ID: CMCMAG-DI6-000) I 20:06:17 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x I 20:06:17 Destination Media Sectors: 24,438,784 I 20:06:17 Write Mode: BD I 20:06:17 Write Type: DAO I 20:06:17 Write Speed: MAX I 20:06:17 Hardware Defect Management Active: No I 20:06:17 BD-R Verify Not Required: Yes I 20:06:17 Link Size: Auto I 20:06:17 Lock Volume: Yes I 20:06:17 Test Mode: No I 20:06:17 OPC: No I 20:06:17 BURN-Proof: Enabled I 20:06:17 Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 35,960 KB/s (8x) I 20:06:17 Advanced Settings - Optimal Writing Speed: No So what gives?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 What does it say it's doing in the status bar? As note for next time... post the entire log please, not just a bit of it - the window scrolls if you hadn't noticed that.
gmatting Posted January 25, 2013 Author Posted January 25, 2013 Ha! It does scroll! Complete log follows below. The status bar says "Reserving Track." I left it alone for an hour before giving up - status bar never changed. LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Reserving track is a single command sent to the drive. If your machine won't process it, it could be down to the controller you've attached it to and/or its drivers.
gmatting Posted January 25, 2013 Author Posted January 25, 2013 Not sure what that means. There has been no issue in processing commands before - why now?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I've no idea... but the command hasn't changed. Please right click the drive selection box, click 'Family Tree', close the prompt and then copy + paste everything from the Log window. Are you sure your discs have always been 'CMCMAG-DI6-000' ?
gmatting Posted January 25, 2013 Author Posted January 25, 2013 Regarding the disks, I assume "CMCMAG-DI6-000" refers to the Philips DL disks. These are the only DL disks I've ever used. The only thing different is that these are from a new, recently purchased lot. Following your direction, here is the log window: I 16:00:48 ImgBurn Version 2.5.7.0 started!I 16:00:48 Microsoft Windows 7 Professional x64 Edition (6.1, Build 7601 : Service Pack 1)I 16:00:48 Total Physical Memory: 16,677,808 KB - Available: 14,351,032 KBW 16:00:48 Drive Z:\ (FAT) might not support single files > 4 GB in size.I 16:00:48 Initialising SPTI...I 16:00:48 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 16:00:48 -> Drive 1 - Info: PIONEER BD-RW BDR-205 1.12 (E:) (SATA)I 16:00:48 Found 1 BD-RE!I 16:01:13 Device: [0:0:0] PIONEER BD-RW BDR-205 1.12 (E:) (SATA)I 16:01:13 Family Tree:I 16:01:13 -> ACPI x64-based PCI 16:01:13 -> Microsoft ACPI-Compliant SystemI 16:01:13 -> PCI busI 16:01:13 -> Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller (VEN_1002&DEV_4391 - ATI - msahci - v6.1.7601.17514)I 16:01:13 -> IDE Channel (ATA Channel 0)I 16:01:13 -> CD-ROM Drive (PIONEER BD-RW BDR-205 ATA Device) (Channel 0, Target 0, Lun 0)
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 The brand name on the disc doesn't mean anything, it's the MID/dye they use that's important. (That's the 'CMCMAG-DI6-000' bit) Maybe you could locate one of the ones you've burnt before and see if it's the same MID/dye as those? Do you have any DVD-R discs? The program will issue the same 'Reserve Track' command when they're being used. If it doesn't get hung up when using those, your system appears to be able to process the command - meaning it's the drive that's getting hung up on the discs.
gmatting Posted January 26, 2013 Author Posted January 26, 2013 How can you tell the MID/dye number? Where is it? There are numbers around the center of the disk but they don't resemble "CMCMAG-DI6-000" or anything like it. DVD-R disks play and burn just fine. The BD-R DL disks have worked fine until this incident.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Put the disc in the drive, switch to 'Write' mode and then look for 'MID' in the disc info box on the right.
gmatting Posted January 26, 2013 Author Posted January 26, 2013 Indeed, they are all CMCMAG-DI6-000. I checked the last several I burned as well as the two disks that failed to burn. I just tried burning the main movie instead of the full disk. Worked perfectly. Tried again to burn the full disk, no go. What in the world? It's not the disks, it's not the drive, it's not the system. What can it be? Full disk was 48gb, main movie was 32gb. Does the size of the file make a difference?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Only in the sense the program sends a larger track size value in the reserve track command! You should probably try and give some other discs a shot as there must be an issue somewhere and that's as good a place as any to start. Maybe cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc would help too?
