Adrianvdh Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Hey its it ok for me to delete these two big files in my windows TEMP folder?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I wouldn't, it may bring about the end of the world.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I was just kidding. It's a 'Temp' folder. By definition, anything still in there after a couple (if you're playing it safe) of reboots can be removed. What's making such massive files in a temp folder anyway?! That would annoy SSD users!
Adrianvdh Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 (edited) So I can delete it? And why is my file so big and why does windows need a TEMP folder? Edited January 30, 2013 by Adrianvdh
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Yes, you can delete it. I have no idea why it's so big or what made it in the first place. It's your machine, you need to figure that out for yourself. Sometimes programs just need somewhere to put 'stuff' they're working on/with but don't really care about (long term) and that's what the temp folder is generally used for. That said, they would normally use the user's temp folder and not the Windows one. I seem to recall users (and therefore the software they're running) not normally having permission to access c:\windows\temp on Windows 7. When you try, you get a prompt which can modify the security on the folder and give you access to it. It could just be the 'list' permission that's missing by default though.
Adrianvdh Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 Ok I need some more help I have made a program to write files to my AppData Folder on The Roaming folder... But Its promoting Access Denied and then I try change the permissions of it from square block on Read Only (what ever that means ) to a clear checkbox and I hit Apply and save the I run my program and i get the error again... Any Help?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 The 'Read Only' checkbox is nothing to do with security permissions on the folder. Look at the actual 'Security' tab instead.
Adrianvdh Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 (edited) Ok all is checked and I still get the error Edited January 30, 2013 by Adrianvdh
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Then your program is probably doing something wrong.
Adrianvdh Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 Ok but my program use to write to that folder but now it doesnt and i need admin permission to let it run?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 You're asking me stuff I can't answer. It's your program, your machine, your folder... you need to figure it out yourself.
