quirk Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) I installed ImgBurn last week and burnt several DVDs very easily. Today it's failing. 6 discs tried, 6 fails. I'm using brand new, single layer, Verbatim dvds (same batch as last week). Trying to burn some mp4s (also happens with avi) gives the following. Any advice please? LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Only being offered 4x on 16x discs isn't great. If that's all it's ever done, you should probably think about investing in a new drive. Have you tried cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc?
quirk Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 It did 16x the week before last on Nero 8, don't know why ImgBurn has decided 4x. Also, would be amazing timing if all it needed was a clean! Can I also ask why avi & mp4 aren't on the list of 'supported files'?
quirk Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) I've just done a speed check with Nero, report says Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : TRUE Simulate : FALSE Write : FALSE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE Speed measurement completed: 22.5x (31,168 KB/s) Edited February 22, 2013 by quirk
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 The 4x speed is all the drive is reporting. If the reported speeds vary if you eject + reinsert the disc, it must be having some sort of trouble reading them. So yeah, cleaning the drive may help. It could also be a sign of the drive dying. avi and mp4 aren't disc image files, that's why they aren't on the 'supported' files list.
quirk Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 (edited) Hello I've tried cleaning the drive but still can't burn a dvd. As an experiment, however, I thought I'd try with a cd and burnt one of the files I had been trying previously - on the dvd drive (the cd drive is read only). Do I still have a dying drive? Cynthia Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I've had many drives that went dead on burning DVDs, but they could still burn CDs.
