lol it's already got wheels :P

It's a few years old now but it's the biggest Lian Li one available at that time.

Yeah the other 2 scsi drives are for code and other things I like the fast access to.

Any chance of a snapshot of this thing?

Sounds like it'll be a great machine. What's it going to cost? Will it require you to don a pair of fishnet stockings and yell "Hello Sailor" at people passing by?

Yeah sure, just as soon as it's all together.

I already had all the scsi drives etc, the only thing I'm really changing is the card - from an adaptec 'normal' one to the dell perc raid one.

It's cost a bomb but I've spread it over a few months

Shamus, even though I voted, can I ask why you ask?

Curious about that myself.

I have 1.5GB PC 2700 in my "main" machine.

768MB on the eMachines/Gateway laptop I'm writing this with. However, the damned Intel "integrated" graphics steals 32MBs of that  .

My third computer, a gift from the wife's company, a PIII 800, has a Gig of RAMBUS. It's also go more fans than a factory in mid-summer. Well, that's the reason they retired it, right, too much heat?

But I tell you what, it's really fast for a PIII with less than a gHz of clockspeed.

I swear customs have nicked our scsi cards and upgraded their own pcs!!!!

I'll have 4GB once the box is up and running. Only difference between my spec and lights is the gfx card (card be arsed to upgrade twice and the 1900xt will do for now) and i'll be running some 15K atlas scsi drives that I got for a very good price ;)

I'm using my 4 gig as ram hard drive.

You got the board yet for ya e6700.

I decided on msi 975x platinum power up edition one, It's OK but has very bad bios which is taking msi forever to sort out.

I think the bios issue is also plaguing other manufacturers as well though.

[edit]

actually read ya post wrong i saw it as intel 975xxx when you meant you bought the badaxe.

seen references to that

any links?

assuming only part of the ram is used for the ram drive?

Tested the I-ram a little further this time with build mode and shrink

Limited use this I-ram thing and too dear at that, as reading source is too slow for i-ram's capabilities.

Eg copying file from any of my sata2 hd's to i ram tops out at sata 2 drives max sustained read rate.

Same applies going from I-ram to any of my sata2 hd's this time hd's max sustainable write rate.

However using I-ram as source for shrink to process encode etc is where i get to see some real benefit at a rate of 153,776k a second to 176,863 k a second, still limited to just under dvd-5 size encoding though ie 3.99 gig etc.

Imgburn build mode when files are stored on I-ram is also pretty stunning, though am limited to just under 2 gig source and just under 2 gig store.

If i bought another and another 4 gig of pc1600 memory it would be lightning fast.

Me.

Well, as soon as my damn SCSI card finally turns up from the US I will! It's holding up my new PC build :(

Are we holding your SCSI card in a secret CIA prison and torturing it?

Can I ask what sort of hardware you're putting into this beasty and what it'll be used for? 4gigs is a hell of alot of RAM for a PC. At least it is at the moment. :)

My brother has six fucking gigs of RAM and 4 Xeon processors running in his machine at work.

He's doing Access database programming. Somehow he's conned the IT department into buying his ass everything he wants. He asks for it. They ask him why. He says, "'Cuz I need it." They nod and give it to him.

Last job I had in my hometown, I had a 486 DX 133 with 32MBs of EDO RAM.

That's my little brother. Just filed bankruptcy but he's got a new car. A Jeep Liberty. julli-brumbrum.gif

We've got a six figure networth, cash in the bank, so much credit my sphincter puckers and our cars are 12 and 9 years old. Respectively, mine's a '94 Explorer in killer shape; her's is a Geo Prizm (which is a Toyota Corolla with the Prizm badge on it; they both roll off the same assembly line in Long Beach. It goes to the right, it's a Prizm. It goes to the left, it becomes a Corolla and costs you $5 grand more).

He's got zip in the bank, went bankrupt last year and is driving a new goddamn car.

Did the new car thing once. It was fun for about six months. But never again. Let somebody else pay the 25% depreciation! :shifty:
