I downloaded film from You Tube.  Converted to mpeg2 using Any Video Converter.  Downloaded IMGBurn and followed instructions from "write image file to disc."  I used DVD-R blank disc.  Log shows I did everything right.  Brand new Dell PC with windows 8 says no disc in drive when I try to play it.  Stand alone DVD players does not recognize disc either.  What did I do wrong?

You need to o convert to a standard set of files for DVD Video to be played on stand alone player.

 

DVD Flick or DVD Styler can do this.

So you are saying IMGBurn can't be used to make movie DVDs?  I was able to make a duplicate film DVD with IMGBurn but it is not able to take a film file from Any Video Converter's MPEG 2 folder and burn a disc?

 

Before my old computer crashed, I was having trouble with Roxio 2009 and a forum guru said I could burn discs using IMGBurn.  Maybe I should invest in a Nero product.

You've just burnt a random mpeg file as if it was a disc image. That's not how these things work.

 

ImgBurn burns exactly what you give it. If you want a DVD Video disc then you need to provide it with a compliant set of DVD Video files (a VIDEO_TS folder containing IFO/VOB/BUP files).

Thanks for responding.  And that's the problem.  I don't know how things work.  When using Roxio, I would take the MPEG2 file from the Any Video Converter folder and turn it into a finished DVD.  I assumed IMGBurn would do the same.  If the file was compliant for Roxio, then why not IMGBurn.  No need to explain why.  I am retired and totally relied on IT guys to fix any computer problem I came across. 

 

I went on the DVD Flick website and read their guidelines.  I have no technical savvy but I can read and follow directions.  DVD Flick actually burns the disc using IMGBurn.  So DVD Flick must provide the "compliant set of DVD Video files" to burn a disc.  I assume Roxio did as likewise. 

 

By the way, before my computer crashed, I was able to load a film I burned a few years ago and make a duplicate using the VIDEO_TS folder and Roxio.  (Roxio's copy disc function was not working)  That was mostly guesswork than me knowing what the hell I was doing.

There are several types of valid video files, like .MPG , .AVI, and others. If you have a the proper software, you can play most on your computer. Other devices like my Playstation game console and set top DVD Players *may* also play the disc you burned IF the manufacturer supported those file types. It just depends on the brand and how old your player is, BUT, a standard DVD has a VIDEO_TS and sometimes an AUDIO_TS folder. Your research above is correct. Use one of those programs like DVD Flick and input your .MPG file and choose the output as standard DVD. Make sure you choose whether you want NTSC (North America and some other areas) or PAL (most Europe and other areas). I think there are options to send the output to a folder on your hard drive, or and Image file, or to burn directly with ImgBurn. Any will work. Burning with ImgBurn is probably the easiest, but the version that is bundled with DVD Flick *may* not be the newest version. It will probably be OK, but you can also install the latest version over it. After you are done, you should be able to right click the DVD in Windows Explorer and it should have a VIDEO_TS folder with several files in it. IF SO, you should be good to go. One last thing, be sure your DVD player even reads your DVD blanks you are using. I have an older one that reads DVD-R, but not DVD+R. It's not usually an issuer with newer players, but thought I'd mention it.

As I looked on Any Video Converter site it can burn DVD Video out of your files. This means it can output a proper set of files for DVD Video. See in the output settings or Burn sttings for option to ouput  VIDEO_TS folder.

 

If you are using DVD Flick you don't need Any Video Converter. You have to choose one converter no need to convert multiple times from one format to other. Both support a wide range of input files.

 

For DVD Flick you just replace imgburn.exe from Program Files\DVD Flick\imgburn folder with the new version from Program Files\ImgBurn folder and you are good to go.
