goldenegg Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) I have a Pioneer BDR-XD04 DVD/BD burner (1.30 firmware) and just picked up a couple Maxell BD-RE DL disks today. When trying to erase the disk, I start getting errors once the process reaches 48% W 20:20:06 Failed to Zero Sectors 11797728 - 11797759 - Reason: Internal Target FailureW 20:20:06 Retrying (1 of 20)...I 20:20:06 Zeroing Sectors...W 20:20:30 Failed to Zero Sectors 11798496 - 11798527 - Reason: Write ErrorW 20:20:30 Retrying (1 of 20)...I 20:20:30 Zeroing Sectors...W 20:20:47 Failed to Zero Sectors 11799264 - 11799295 - Reason: Write ErrorW 20:20:47 Retrying (1 of 20)...I 20:20:47 Zeroing Sectors...W 20:21:10 Failed to Zero Sectors 11800032 - 11800063 - Reason: Write ErrorW 20:21:10 Retrying (1 of 20)...I 20:21:10 Zeroing Sectors...W 20:21:11 Failed to Zero Sectors 11800864 - 11800895 - Reason: Internal Target FailureW 20:21:11 Retrying (1 of 20)...I 20:21:11 Zeroing Sectors...W 20:21:13 Failed to Zero Sectors 11801760 - 11801791 - Reason: Internal Target FailureW 20:21:13 Retrying (1 of 20)...I 20:21:13 Zeroing Sectors...W 20:21:27 Failed to Zero Sectors 11802528 - 11802559 - Reason: Write ErrorW 20:21:27 Retrying (1 of 20)...I 20:21:27 Zeroing Sectors... and so on ... When the errors occur, the drive seems to spin down and then spin back up. Is this just a case of crappy media (I figured Maxell would be decent) or could something else be wrong? These are the first rewrittable BD disks I've used. The process is currently at 52%, continuing to produce errors. I'm guessing it will eventually finish, but I doubt the disk will be all that reliable in the end. Any advice is greatly appreciated. EDIT: I've attached the full log, from the currently running process. ImgBurn.log Edited April 10, 2013 by goldenegg
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Yeah I'd try some other media if I were you.
goldenegg Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 I placed an order for a Verbatim BD-RE DL disk. Are Maxell disks known to be low quality? The store I bought it from won't offer a return, so I'd have to go through Maxell to try getting a replacement. Is it worth the hassle?
spinningwheel Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Is it worth the hassle? Why not try, all you can loose is what you've already paid for the media plus the aggravation.

The question was more around whether or not Maxell disks are even decent to begin with. Doesn't seem to matter though. Maxell Canada never pick up their phones and apparently don't respond to voice mail either. Oh well. I got my Verbatim disk today. I'll try formatting it tonight and see how it goes.
