I've tried this with the BurnerMax firmware, and a custom FW which allows UMEDISC to burn at 2.4x It's like - once the disc is burned, the drive does not recognize the disc, and is unable to verify Any help would be appreciated. The_Doorman
We see far too many people having problems with RITEK, CMC, RICOH media ... Not using these media - UMEDISCs... I suppose this could be the issue - but I've burned plenty before. (This issue did occur with a new spindle of discs... could be a bad batch) DVD+R DL discs are the way forward! (Please note that I said DVD+R DL and not DVD-R DL!!!) Using DVD+R DLs Update the firmware on your drive - right click the drive selection box and click 'Check For Firmware Updates' (or find it in 'Tools' -> 'Drive').Firmware already updated Try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc (or if you're feeling confident, take it apart and clean it manually).Drive is clean Try burning your current media at all of the write speeds your drive says it supports for that MID (look in the disc info text on the right of the main screen to see what they are). Will try higher speeds and report back... Avoid using slimline laptop style drives - in general, they're rubbish.Burning on a desktop Buy a new drive that supports your current media better/properly (this is still going to be a bit hit and miss). This is a relatively new drive - burned tons of discs successfully (Was using memorex - and my new spindle of discs is also memorex, but I didn't notice if the other memorex discs were UMEDISC or not.) So.... Anything advice other than Use verbatims or higher speed burns? (Neither was necessary with previous memorex burns...) Thanks - The Doorman
spinningwheel
So.... Anything advice other than Use verbatims or higher speed burns? (Neither was necessary with previous memorex burns...) You've covered it pretty well with your explanation of possible causes and then the correct move to overcome them. Whether you wish to believe that there is a problem with the media you have chosen or not is your choice. Memorex simply rebadges whatever media it can get in order to make it's price point, nothing else. They do not produce/manufacture or have anything else to do with the media other than order it from the one of the 3 maybe 4 media manufacturers and then resell it. Switch to Verbs or TY's and eliminate another probable cause of the problem. spinner
The_Doorman
I went out and got verbatims - and the first burn was successful. (Insert Homer Simpson's DOH here) The entire Memorex spindle I was using must have been bad... but Memorex must be "hit or miss" because I had just finished 2-3 Memorex spindles (with the same UMEDIC ID) which burned flawlessly. As soon as those were used up and I went to a new Memorex spindle, 15 discs turned into 15 coasters. Will be using Verbs from now on. Thanks.
