Ch3vr0n Posted September 16, 2013 Author Posted September 16, 2013 i'm guessing it's the blanks actually. Normal blanks start at the inner diameter these guys' recording layer doesn't start out to be another centimeter further out yet are still be able to hold 23.5gb
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 But aren't you having this issue with all of your BD discs? (Ignore DVDs, they're totally different) You've posted logs of BD-R, BD-RE now haven't you? They've all shown the same invalid bytes in the 'disc information' structure.
Ch3vr0n Posted September 16, 2013 Author Posted September 16, 2013 yup, that bd-re-xl log was with a verbatim bd-r inside the drive, a previous one was with a maxell bd-re sl, i do have a sony bd-re dl i can try but since all types of bd are affected, it might not be the drive itself or the media but something on the firmware level.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 It can't be firmware either, I've used the same drive as you and it works fine. There's no way 3 drives would return the same (identical) invalid data. They aren't even all the same chipset. Do the safe mode / other OS thing and get back to me please.
Ch3vr0n Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 looks like ur right. In safemode both drives correctly report the MID as VERBAT-ime-00 Yet for some reason they don't in normal boot mode, even with anydvd completely inactive, and that's the only program i have installed that otherwise interacts with the drives, nero and that crap isn't even on my system bd-r--bh10ls30.log bd-r--bh16ns40.log
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Well at least you've something to go on now. What does your filter driver list look like (Tools menu)? Perhaps try installing some intel chipset device software updates, putting the controller into ahci mode and installing the Intel Rapid Storage Tech drive (assuming it supports your chipset). Something is obviously messing things up somewhere along the line

LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 The only one I can't rule out (because I don't have it in mine) is pxhlpa64. The rest are fine.
Ch3vr0n Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 Putting the storage controller from idea mode into ahci bluescreens windows. And I'm not going to reinstall windows just for that. If i wanna know bd mid ill pop into safe mode i guess. Because downloading the latest storage drivers from Asus itself said my. System is incorrect lol
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 I can implement a workaround for you but ideally I'd like to capture the entire 'disc information' structure for that. Do you have Opti Drive Control or DVDInfoPro at all? If you have ODC, just put a disc in and bring up the 'Disc Info' bit. Right click the pane where the disc info is displayed and save it as an html file. Zip that up and upload it on here for me please. If you only have DVDInfoPro, I'll have to detail how to send the correct custom command. (so please let me know )
Ch3vr0n Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 I don't have either but i can get em. Which one's the easiest to do.
Ch3vr0n Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 (edited) as requested file 1 is from the bh16, file 2 is from the bh10 i can only see 1 minor thing different and that's in the speed descripters file 1 lists 4-6-8-10-12, file 2 lists 2-4-6-8-10 but hold of on that for now. Although firmwarehq (through imgb) sais there is no new firmware available (drive was using 1.00-A2 i did find a newer one on the lg.com/nl. Version 1.01-A1 and just flashed it. Maybe that'll fix it. I'll let ya know later today. discinfo.rar discinfo2.rar Edited September 17, 2013 by Ch3vr0n
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Thanks. It's just the first DI unit that has its 'DI' identifier/signature corrupt/missing then... you can see the one at offset 0x0074 is ok.
Ch3vr0n Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 i see one in the 0070 line, but you're the expert i'll post back later although the firmware only lists "disc readability improvements" but hey, can't hurt to use the latest fw
Ch3vr0n Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 flashing 1.01 has no effect. I've included both imgb debug log & ODC log's with new firmware just in case bh16ns40-fw1.01.rar
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 As it worked in safe mode, it was never going to be firmware related Something is messing with the I/O on your system, it's just a case of finding out what - or ignoring it. Have you tried it with the I/O Interface set to ElbyCDIO rather than SPTI? I'm just curious as to whether or not that I/O Interface would bypass whatever's causing the issue.
Ch3vr0n Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) dude, ur a freakin genius. The second i swapped from SPTI to elbyCDIO. MID is now displayed on both drives so probably needed have swapped that drive out but hey it was getting old anyway that bh08 I 16:43:32 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started!I 16:43:32 Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Edition (6.0, Build 6002 : Service Pack 2)I 16:43:32 Total Physical Memory: 8.386.684 KiB - Available: 4.040.960 KiBW 16:43:32 AnyDVD can interfere with ImgBurn's ability to verify accurately, please ensure it's disabled!I 16:43:32 Initialising SPTI...I 16:43:32 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 16:43:33 -> Drive 1 - Info: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH10LS30 1.01-A0 (F:) (ATA)I 16:43:33 -> Drive 2 - Info: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH16NS40 1.01-A1 (E:) (ATA)I 16:43:34 -> Drive 3 - Info: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH20NS10 EL01 (G:) (ATA)I 16:43:34 -> Drive 4 - Info: ELBY CLONEDRIVE 1.4 (H:) (SCSI)I 16:43:34 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM, 1 BD-ROM/HD DVD-ROM, 1 BD-RE and 1 BD-RE XL!W 16:43:56 I/O Interface has been changed!I 16:43:56 Shutting down SPTI...I 16:43:56 Initialising ElbyCDIO...I 16:43:56 ELBYCDIO.DLL - Elaborate Bytes CDRTools - ElbyCDIO DLL - Version 6.1.6.1I 16:43:56 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 16:43:57 -> Drive 1 - Info: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH10LS30 1.01-A0 (F:) (ATA)I 16:43:57 -> Drive 2 - Info: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH20NS10 EL01 (G:) (ATA)I 16:43:57 -> Drive 3 - Info: ELBY CLONEDRIVE 1.4 (H:) (SCSI)I 16:43:57 -> Drive 4 - Info: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH16NS40 1.01-A1 (E:) (ATA)I 16:43:57 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM, 1 BD-ROM/HD DVD-ROM, 1 BD-RE and 1 BD-RE XL!
