change burn speed

hi.

i have a sony optiarc 5280 the one that burns 8.5 gigs

is it possible to change any settings in img that will let me change the burn speed  of a disk that will only burn at 4x and above down to burn a 2.4

i know this was possible on my old ihas but im not sure if the same process would work on the sony

It isn't, no. The drive's firmware controls that stuff.

 i dont know what i done when i was messing around with the drive but think i messed up the firmware, the drive dosent even show it can burn 8.5g anymore do you know where i could get a copy of the orignal firmware,i can only find it for the stanard version not the 5280s+
