Juise Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 First off, thank you Lightning UK for ImgBurn! I've been using it for as long as I can remember! I mean back in the days when it did DVD Decrypting (wasn't there a name change back then?)! So I have two Intel based computers with iHAS 124b drives with burnerMAX firmware; 1) Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (normal BIOS), Intel 6 Series SATA, Marvell 88SE9172 SATA, i7-2600k, 16GB RAM, HP 1260i C, iHAS124b (on Marvell SATA) 2) Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 (UEFI), i5-3570, 8GB RAM, Intel 6 Series SATA, iHAS124b (on Intel SATA) Neither one of them will burn a decent XGD3 without making 5 or 6 coasters first. I've spent the better part of 2 weeks reading and trying everything! I still couldn't burn more then 2 good disc in a row. I picked up a Optiarc AD-5280S Plus put in box #2 reset the ImgBurn settings and burned a disc over the network, reset the computer that was sharing the ISO while it was burning, continued burning it 35 minutes later, and had a PI of 19/.89 and PIF of 2/.08 (Kprobe max/average)! the HP1260i with the payload performs just as poorly as the ihas drives too. I don't want to give up on my iHAS drives! So here is a list of everything I can remember trying in hopes that someone here might have the magic silver bullet! All test have been done with both MKM-001 and MKM-003 Singapore disc on both computers with no noticeable difference. Tried the C4EVA guide settings (with and without OPC, 2.4x/4x, with all advanced drive settings on, with OPC cleared before each burn, [5 burns with OPC, 5 without], Box #1 in IDE mode & AHCI, Box #1 with default SATA driver & Marvell driver, 512 meg buffer) Tried default ImgBurn with settings it recommends (usually 4X with online hyper tuning disabled) for the burn. Things I know I haven't tried Crossflash to another model number IE 324, 624, etc. Moving to Intel sata on Box1. This is not really an option due to the way the HDD's are configured. Both computers have the same Intel SATA controller and the drive on box #2 is on the Intel. Stock 124 with payload usb enclosure/adapter So do you guys see anything I missed trying?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Ok, so you don't need to touch any of ImgBurn's settings at all. When I do my tests for the drives/media forums, I do so on the default settings. All I found you need to do for working burns is enable the 'Force HyperTuning' option on the drive. FHT, OHT and OverSpeed are off by default, SmartBurn is On by default. So all you're changing is FHT to on. Then, as you said, burn at 4x. You should also clear the drive's OPC history just once before starting over again. Don't do it every burn. If you aren't getting burns that verify ok (I'm ignoring actual error levels in kprobe etc for now), you have some sort of hardware issue - be it with your drive, media or system as a whole (maybe PSU?). When you've ensured everything is configured as above (and you've cleared the drive's OPC history), post a log of you burning and verifying an MKM-003-00 disc please.
Juise Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the reply. I will be focusing on box #2 as that is where I'll do my burning. I know the PS is good because I recently replaced it and never have any issues with the fairly power hungry SLi GTX 560 setup when gaming or any other task. I know from all the reading I've done on this that you're not the biggest fan of the MKM-001-00 media but I do have 30 of them left and I'm out of 03's now and I have no way to local source them (03's). So what settings do you want me to use when testing in Win 8 for iHas 124b using mkm-001 media? Do you want me to use the same img for testing or will that not matter as long as they are all XGD3? -=NEW ISSUE=- I upgraded Box #2 to Windows 8 (because it's a Gaming/HTPC and that's one of the few good uses for Metro). Since the "upgrade" the Optiarc is now making disc that fail the kprobe test! Any ideas on what could be going on with the Optiarc drive? Thanks, once you get a chance to reply I will provide the logs needed. Edited October 3, 2013 by Juise
