grrrlie Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 (edited) Hi! My VCR/DVD Recorder recently broke leaving me with many dvds that are unfinalised & therefore will not play and are not recognised (even in my computer). IMGBurn was suggested to me, but I don't know where to start or what to do. Help! Would appreciate a friendly 'idiot's guide' as to what to do, starting with info of which programme to download, & a step by step of what to do. INFO you might need to help me: (1) The DVDs were created on a Toshiba VCR/DVD Recorder that is about 3-4 years old. (2) The discs are all DVD+R & unfinalised. (3) Most of the discs were not full to capacity (a few are). (4) Some of them I could afford to lose, even though I would do so sadly. Others contain priceless sentimental items that I can't imagine ever having to lose. (5) My old DVD Recorder is completely dead (won't turn on) Any other info you might need, please let me know... Thank You very much! Also, when I did link to a download on this site (I didn't click 'OK'), I noticed that the address didn't even feature the words 'imgburn'. Should I be worried by this. Any info/advice appreciated. Edited November 13, 2013 by grrrlie
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Load ImgBurn and switch to 'Write' mode ('Write image file to disc'). Put one of the unfinalised discs in the drive, wait until the drive / program has finished initialising it and then tell me what's written in the disc info box on the right (you can copy + paste all of the text). If that box is basically empty (just a line or 2), tell me what's written in the status bar at the bottom of the main window. ImgBurn's download page has 7 or so 'mirror' sites listed at the top. You can download the 'SetupImgBurn_2.5.8.0.exe' file from any one of those.
grrrlie Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Thanks for replying so quick. I'm just trying to do what you said. Will get back to you when I've got the info you need. So far my Virus Protection is telling me there are viruses attached to the download and is blocking me. Arrrgh!
grrrlie Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 I've download and completed set up, but can't find ImgBurn anywhere.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Can you switch to 'Read' mode and do the same please. (sorry!) You might be able to get away with right clicking the drive selection drop down box and selecting close track / session / disc (in that order). Ignore ones that error out and then post the updated disc info when you've done all that.
