BillStokerCL Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Just in case I am missing something I wanted to post about my experience with burning non-Verbatim DVD+R DL media. I know I have been able to do this successfully in the past on this computer, with this drive, with the same firmware, and I believe with this same media. Today it failed. I did upgrade to latest firmware with no change. The media I am using (Memorex 8x) appears to use ritek dye, and I've seen Verbatim (2.4x preferred) recommended to resolve, or possibly replacing the drive. Here is my log: I 12:41:26 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started!I 12:41:26 Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition (6.1, Build 7601 : Service Pack 1)I 12:41:26 Total Physical Memory: 3,405,424 KiB - Available: 1,658,344 KiBI 12:41:26 Initialising SPTI...I 12:41:26 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 12:41:28 -> Drive 1 - Info: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N C109 (D:) (SATA)I 12:41:28 -> Drive 2 - Info: ELBY CLONEDRIVE 1.4 (E:) (SCSI)I 12:41:28 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM and 1 BD-ROM/HD DVD-ROM!I 12:41:28 Project Successfully Loaded!I 12:41:28 File Name: C:\Users\billstoker\Desktop\2014-01-15 - #44.IBBI 12:41:58 Operation Started!I 12:41:58 Building Image Tree...I 12:41:58 Calculating Totals...I 12:41:58 Preparing Image...I 12:41:58 Contents: 7 Files, 4 FoldersI 12:41:58 Content Type: DataI 12:41:58 Data Type: MODE1/2048I 12:41:58 File System(s): UDF (1.02)I 12:41:58 Volume Label: 2014-01-15 - #44I 12:41:58 Size: 8,374,189,056 bytesI 12:41:58 Sectors: 4,088,963I 12:41:58 Image Size: 8,374,779,904 bytesI 12:41:58 Image Sectors: 4,089,248I 12:41:58 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:00:00I 12:43:48 Operation Started!I 12:43:48 Building Image Tree...I 12:43:48 Calculating Totals...I 12:43:48 Preparing Image...I 12:43:48 Contents: 5 Files, 3 FoldersI 12:43:48 Content Type: DataI 12:43:48 Data Type: MODE1/2048I 12:43:48 File System(s): UDF (1.02)I 12:43:48 Volume Label: 2014-01-15 - #44I 12:43:48 Size: 8,164,389,888 bytesI 12:43:48 Sectors: 3,986,521I 12:43:48 Image Size: 8,164,999,168 bytesI 12:43:48 Image Sectors: 3,986,816I 12:43:48 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:00:00I 12:43:50 Operation Started!I 12:43:50 Building Image Tree...I 12:43:50 Calculating Totals...I 12:43:50 Preparing Image...I 12:43:50 Contents: 3 Files, 2 FoldersI 12:43:50 Content Type: DataI 12:43:50 Data Type: MODE1/2048I 12:43:50 File System(s): UDF (1.02)I 12:43:50 Volume Label: 2014-01-15 - #44I 12:43:50 Size: 6,972,812,288 bytesI 12:43:50 Sectors: 3,404,695I 12:43:50 Image Size: 6,973,423,616 bytesI 12:43:50 Image Sectors: 3,404,992I 12:43:50 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:00:00I 12:43:53 Operation Started!I 12:43:53 Building Image Tree...I 12:43:53 Calculating Totals...I 12:43:53 Preparing Image...I 12:43:53 Contents: 3 Files, 2 FoldersI 12:43:53 Content Type: DataI 12:43:53 Data Type: MODE1/2048I 12:43:53 File System(s): UDF (1.02)I 12:43:53 Volume Label: 2014-01-15 - #44I 12:43:53 Size: 6,972,812,288 bytesI 12:43:53 Sectors: 3,404,695I 12:43:53 Image Size: 6,973,423,616 bytesI 12:43:53 Image Sectors: 3,404,992I 12:43:53 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:00:00I 12:45:18 Operation Started!I 12:45:18 Building Image Tree...I 12:45:18 Calculating Totals...I 12:45:18 Preparing Image...I 12:45:18 Contents: 3 Files, 2 FoldersI 12:45:18 Content Type: DataI 12:45:18 Data Type: MODE1/2048I 12:45:18 File System(s): UDF (1.02)I 12:45:18 Volume Label: 2014-01-15 - #44I 12:45:18 Size: 6,972,812,288 bytesI 12:45:18 Sectors: 3,404,695I 12:45:18 Image Size: 6,973,390,848 bytesI 12:45:18 Image Sectors: 3,404,976I 12:45:21 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:00:02I 12:45:21 Operation Started!I 12:45:21 Source File: -==/\/[bUILD IMAGE]\/\==-I 12:45:21 Source File Sectors: 3,404,976 (MODE1/2048)I 12:45:21 Source File Size: 6,973,390,848 bytesI 12:45:21 Source File Volume Identifier: 2014-01-15 - #44I 12:45:21 Source File Volume Set Identifier: 442F65A90033F4A3I 12:45:21 Source File Application Identifier: ImgBurn v2.5.8.0I 12:45:21 Source File Implementation Identifier: ImgBurnI 12:45:21 Source File File System(s): UDF (1.02)I 12:45:21 Destination Device: [3:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N C109 (D:) (SATA)I 12:45:21 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66)I 12:45:21 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8xI 12:45:21 Destination Media Sectors: 4,173,824I 12:45:21 Destination Media L0 Data Zone Capacity: 2,086,912 (Changeable: Yes)I 12:45:21 Write Mode: DVDI 12:45:21 Write Type: DAOI 12:45:21 Write Speed: MAXI 12:45:21 DVD+R DL Reserve Track: NoI 12:45:21 Link Size: AutoI 12:45:21 Lock Volume: YesI 12:45:21 Test Mode: NoI 12:45:21 OPC: NoI 12:45:21 BURN-Proof: EnabledI 12:45:21 Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 11,080 KB/s (8x)I 12:45:21 Book Type Setting: N/A (Reason: Invalid Command Operation Code)I 12:45:21 Optimal L0 Data Zone Capacity: 1,702,496I 12:45:21 Optimal L0 Data Zone Method: ECC Block BoundaryI 12:45:21 Set L0 Data Zone Capacity Succeeded!I 12:45:21 L0 Data Zone Capacity - Effective: 1,702,496I 12:45:22 Filling Buffer... These logs are actually from when I reduced the amount of data and I am still seeing the same errors. Basically, I am wondering if there are any other suggestions. I am fine with DVD-R DL media if that is generally more reliable. I only burn data DVDs with backups of email from terminated users at my company, and the occassional ISO for installation of software.
BillStokerCL Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 Thank you. Should have mentioned I tried 4x. Let me try lowest speed and see if that does it.
BillStokerCL Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 Also failed at 1x. Going to try Verbatim media.
