dbminter Posted April 13, 2014 Author Posted April 13, 2014 Also discovered this Pioneer doesn't Verify music CD-RW's very fast. About half the speed of my LG Blu-Ray burner did. But, the LG never burned 24x CD-RW at a full 24x. It always said write speed miscompare, setting the write to 16x. However, the write actually went to 21x. But, never to 24x.
dbminter Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 Odd. ImgBurn says my Pioneer drive is a BDR-209M. The check for firmware updates in ImgBurn shows a listing in its master list of drive strings for BDR-209M. But, the utility doesn't update the firmware. It appears to be a newer firmware, 1.02 versus 1.01, although the ID part at the end of 1 less than mine.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 The 'Kernel Version' is important with Pioneer drives. There do loads of different versions but use the same main drive name identifier for most (either BDR-XXX or BDR-XXXM) and it's just the kernel versions that differ and prevent flashing of different firmware updates.
dbminter Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 So, the ID part of the firmware version string is the Kernel Version? Mine being 60 and the firmware revision I thought was newer, being ID59, isn't my drive.
dbminter Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 Looks like there might be an update for this drive now. There's an ID60 1.20 firmware dated May 19th available now.
dbminter Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 There is an update for it. Funny thing, like with my LG, the update did not try to reassign a drive letter in Windows. In fact, the flashing didn't require a restart of the computer!
