ballzley Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) Hello, These BIOS-related questions have to do with AMI BIOS. My purpose is to lightly overclock my CPU, because Gateway has locked overclocked settings (last known BIOS from Gateway for my motherboard: http://support.gateway.com/product/?cmpid=supportnav)In detail please - how does one go about creating using a separate CD-R for each: -Backing up current BIOS (I have Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit V2.0, if that helps). I have used the Toolkit and made a .ROM file named AMI (so, AMI.ROM), as per http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/39588-The-AMIBIOS-Repository , but how do I go about using it whenever I would need to backup? Does it need a different name (AMIBOOT.ROM)? Do I need to put AFUDOS.exe in the CD-R as well? If so, how? -Flashing/updating to a new BIOS (link http://bios-mods.com/BIOS/AMI/Gateway/Gateway%20FX6800%20Unlocked%20By%201234s282.zip) I wish to test this BIOS out (I believe the actual BIOS filename in this .zip pack is 842P161G.ROM . I see it has both AFUWIN and AFUDOS exe files. If I understand correctly, AFUWIN is allowing the BIOS file to be implemented through Windows (http://www.ecs.com.tw/extra/flashutl/afuwin.htm), whereas AFUDOS is done through DOS. What do I need to know about using a CD-R to correctly implement and test this new BIOS via DOS? I've never done this before nor have I had to backup BIOS before, and do not want to risk bricking. I have heard from many that it's not safe to flash a BIOS within Windows (which, I assume to be the method judging from the presence of AFUWIN.exe in the filepack above) Thank you for your help T_T Edited February 19, 2014 by ballzley
