DeathStalker Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Ok, I just re-installed Windows 7 and now I can't get multiple instances of ImgBurn ready to roll - well, I can have multiple instances OPEN, but none but the first will see the drive. I get - This drive is currently locked for exclusive access by 'ImgBurn v2.5.8.0 - PID: 13524'. Device->Initialise() Failed! Device: [0:2:0] DVD-RW (X:) (ATAPI) This drive will not be visible in the program. Now I previously did not have this problem - I could get several instances of ImgBurn ready to burn, just awaiting the switching of discs - now I have to manually Search for devices each time Thanks for any help!
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 You can open multiple instances and have them all see the drive if you aren't actually burning to it in one of them.
DeathStalker Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 What I'm saying, is that I WAS able to do that previously, with no problem. I *never* had to manually search for the drive - ever.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Then you probably changed something on your previous install because it's working how it's supposed to now. That's the whole idea behind locking the drive for exclusive usage during the burn... nothing else can touch it and mess things up.
DeathStalker Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 IMHO, there is a difference between locking the drive, and making the drive "invisible" and forcing a manual search. Once the burn is completed, that should automatically release the drive to the other instances - one should not have to manually search for the drive each time.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 The exclusive access lock is provided by the OS. It locks it in such a way that the OS commands used to 'open' the drive then fail. It's out of ImgBurn's hands.
DeathStalker Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Well clearly there is SOME option that allows the tray to be locked, but the drive to be "seen" - not like I'm making this stuff up for fun
