hgeo Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Dear ImgBurn Support Team, I am using ImgBurn v2.5.8.0 on a Windows 8.1 installed via BootCamp on a Mac.I have folders that I would like to burn to a BD with ImgBurn, however since my files/folders are on the Mac partition (HFS+), and it is only readable by the Win8.1, it throws an 'EOF' Error every single time. Does not matter if I want to write the folders straight to the BD, or try to build an ISO image file, it throws the same error, which is not file/folder specific either. It seems like the only problem is ImgBurn somehow tries to write on the HFS Mac partition. When I copy the same folders to an NTFS external HDD, I can burn the disc from it, and I can even build ISO image file. Also I can burn ISO from the Mac partition as well, so I am guessing in this case ImgBurn only reads the ISO and does not try to write as it might happens in Build from Folder or Write from Folder mode. Here is my log when I tried to Build an ISO from folders from Mac partition (D) and save the ISO on a different readable/writable partition (I): I 15:03:14 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started!I 15:03:14 Microsoft Windows 8 Professional x64 Edition (6.2, Build 9200)I 15:03:14 Total Physical Memory: 3 906 256 KiB - Available: 2 538 284 KiBI 15:03:14 Initialising SPTI...I 15:03:14 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 15:03:14 -> Drive 1 - Info: DTSOFT BDROM 1.05 (G:) (Virtual)I 15:03:14 -> Drive 2 - Info: HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N SB00-02 (E:) (ATA)I 15:03:14 Found 1 DVD±RW and 1 BD-ROM!I 15:04:11 Operation Started!I 15:04:11 Building Image Tree...W 15:04:12 Skipped Hidden File: D:\DISC_1\.DS_StoreI 15:04:12 Calculating Totals...I 15:04:12 Preparing Image...I 15:04:12 Contents: 880 Files, 33 FoldersI 15:04:12 Content Type: BD VideoI 15:04:12 Data Type: MODE1/2048I 15:04:12 File System(s): UDF (2.50)I 15:04:12 Volume Label: [Not Configured]I 15:04:12 Size: 49 405 972 480 bytesI 15:04:12 Sectors: 24 124 010I 15:04:12 Image Size: 49 410 801 664 bytesI 15:04:12 Image Sectors: 24 126 368I 15:04:12 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:00:00I 15:04:16 Operation Started!I 15:04:16 Building Image Tree...W 15:04:16 Skipped Hidden File: D:\DISC_1\.DS_StoreI 15:04:22 Calculating Totals...I 15:04:22 Preparing Image...I 15:04:22 Contents: 880 Files, 33 FoldersI 15:04:22 Content Type: BD VideoI 15:04:22 Data Type: MODE1/2048I 15:04:22 File System(s): UDF (2.50)I 15:04:22 Volume Label: DISC_1I 15:04:22 Size: 49 405 972 480 bytesI 15:04:22 Sectors: 24 124 010I 15:04:22 Image Size: 49 410 801 664 bytesI 15:04:22 Image Sectors: 24 126 368I 15:04:24 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:00:08I 15:04:24 Operation Started!I 15:04:24 Image Contents: 880 Files, 33 FoldersI 15:04:24 Image Sectors: 24 126 368 (MODE1/2048)I 15:04:24 Image Size: 49 410 801 664 bytesI 15:04:24 Image Volume Identifier: DISC_1I 15:04:24 Image Volume Set Identifier: 445B788801701F8AI 15:04:24 Image Application Identifier: ImgBurn v2.5.8.0I 15:04:24 Image Implementation Identifier: ImgBurnI 15:04:24 Image File System(s): UDF (2.50)I 15:04:24 Destination File: I:\DISC_1\DISC_1.ISOI 15:04:24 Destination Free Space: 108 490 051 584 Bytes (105 947 316,00 KiB) (103 464,18 MiB) (101,04 GiB)I 15:04:24 Destination File System: NTFSI 15:04:24 File Splitting: AutoI 15:04:25 Writing Image...E 15:04:25 Failed to read from file: 'D:\DISC_1\BDMV\index.bdmv'E 15:04:26 Reason: Reached EOF!E 15:04:34 Operation Failed! - Duration: 00:00:09E 15:04:34 Average Write Rate: 291 KiB/s (0.1x) - Maximum Write Rate: 291 KiB/s (0.1x)Same happened when I tried to burn disc from folders located on the Mac partition. It is easily solvable by copying files to the external HDD and build or burn from there, but it would be nice to get a solution for the problem, since ISO files are easily burnable straight from the Mac partition already.Thank you.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Does not matter if I want to write the folders straight to the BD, or try to build an ISO image file, it throws the same error, which is not file/folder specific either. So are you saying that if you repeat that very same build operation (i.e. just click the start/build button again), you won't always get the error on the same file? Press the F8 key before you try again (to enable I/O debug mode) and then post a new log once it has errored out please.
hgeo Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 No, sorry for my misleading sentence. When I wrote that it is not file specific, I was saying that it does not matter which files or folders I try to build the ISO from, or burn the disc from. As long as the files or folders located on the Mac's HFS partition, ImgBurn throws the same EOF error every single time. If the exact same files/folders are located on an NTFS partition however everything works like a charm. And the weird thing is that with already built ISO image files the burning from the Mac's HFS partition works, so I was thinking it is because ImgBurn only reads out the ISO from the partition bit by bit. I am not sure what does ImgBurn do while building ISO from files, but the reading process could differ from the above mentioned "Burn from ISO" reading process. Normally I would think that it reads out the files/folders and builds the ISO to a writable partition, but it might does something else locally in the background and certainly the Mac's HFS partition is not writable under Windows. I will post the new log that you have requested as soon as I can, and thank you very much for your support.
hgeo Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 I forgot to mention why I am not storing the files/folders that I would like to burn on the Windows' partition instead. The answer is easy, the free storage space is very limited, that's why I also tried to find the work around with an external HDD, but it still a bit time consuming to copy everything from the Mac's partition since I create most of my personal workflow on Mac, so it is right there waiting for burning properly.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 All that's happening is the program is unable to read X bytes from a file that's supposed to be X bytes in size... it's as if the file is shrinking between when the OS reports its size and when ImgBurn then tries to read it. The debug info will tell me a bit more about what's going on. I wonder if the problem is coming from Windows 8.1 trying to read that HFS partition or if it's something to do with bootcamp. I've never tried either so I can't comment!
hgeo Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 All right, that's makes perfect sense. I am currently running an other task with ImgBurn that I would not want to interrupt (not even with multisession) so my next log update will be here in the next hour or so. I was looking through the Support Forum before posted my question, and I have found a very similar problem although it was not solved as far as I can tell. Here is the link: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?/topic/15784-mac-bootcamp-issues/?hl=%2Bbootcamp&do=findComment&comment=122467As I read through the comments, I can tell it is not OS specific, since it threw the same error under XP and Windows 7 as well. I am not sure if the Windows can even read HFS natively but BootCamp installs a few driver at the first start, so it could be possible that BootCamp's "stuff" allows me to read the Mac's partition under Windows. (How bad it does not allow me to write on it. )

LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 ok and what's the size of the file according to the OS?
hgeo Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 The file size seems correct, it has been reported as 1080 bytes, although I am not sure if the HFS+ has any effect while I am using Windows via BootCamp.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 If you use 'advanced' input mode and add that file to the disc layout, what does it list in the size column? Perhaps you could take a screenshot of the disc layout editor window so I can see?
hgeo Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Could you please specify the steps how should I get the 'Advanced' Input Mode? Also how can I attach the screenshot here on the Forum?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Select 'build' in the mode menu at the top, then select 'advanced' in the input menu at the top. You have to use the proper reply method (not the quick box) in order to upload stuff to the forum.
hgeo Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) All right, here is the Disc Layout, I am not sure which windows were the important part, but I am guessing you need to see how does the Build project looks like, and what is the size of the index.bdmv file. Also I am not sure if it is important, but the Properties shows that the file size is 1080bytes, but it takes 4096bytes on disc. Edited March 1, 2014 by hgeo
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Which 'properties' are you referring to? Within the program? That value you see in the 'Size' column there should match what's shown in the file properties box if you right click the file within the DLE window and select properties. That's not the size of the object on the disc, it should be the actual size of the file... and it saying 4KB is where your problem is coming from.
hgeo Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 I am referring to Windows' file properties. The right click type on file. File size is 1080bytes, size on disk is 4096bytes (4KB). The 4KB also shows up under the Disk Layout window as you can see. The error informed us that only part of the file is readable. No idea why it happened since 1080bytes were read correctly, but ImgBurn might uses the size on disk size instead. Don't know what is up with the size on disk thing since I am not a computer expert. I can only give you the details here, and hope it can help you to solve this problem. As I have read in the other topic that I have also linked a few comments above, it has been reported that the error comes up when the user is trying to use Build Mode (or Write from Files Mode) and the source file/folder is on any kind of HFS partition (external, USB drive, etc). So it certainly means that we can leave alone the Mac and BootCamp here, because the problem is only related to the file system itself. If you have access to an external drive that you can format to HFS and try to recreate the same error, it might gives you even more details that I can. I have to say thank you for your help, and please let me know if I can do anything else to get over this difficulty.

LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 After reading your post, I have double checked the properties of the file under Windows 8.1 again. Right click on file (file is on HFS+ Mac partition): size of file 4KB size on disk 4KB Which version of Bootcamp are you running? I'm afraid this problem won't go away until the OS shows the size as 1080 bytes in the file properties. The 'size on disk' doesn't matter.
hgeo Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 The version of BootCamp that I am using is 5.0.5033. I guess than Windows does not even read HFS+ without this driver provided by Apple, so the problem is not easily solvable by ImgBurn itself, since under Apple the size of the file is reported as 1080bytes also. The only interesting thing is that if I build the ISO image on an external NTFS, and than copy the image file to the HFS+ partition, it can be used by ImgBurn to burn it on disc under Windows (BootCamp), which is weird since the size of that ISO should be recognized wrongly just like the other files, and it still does not give me any EOF error, and the burn is flawless.
hgeo Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) So I think I should write to Apple Support, since they're messing up something with these block size thing. Edited March 2, 2014 by hgeo
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 ImgBurn will always build ISO's that are multiple of 16k... and therefore always a multiple of 4k, which is what Apple's Bootcamp 'HFS under windows' driver seems to round files up to. So you wouldn't run into the problem of it trying to read beyond the end of the file. It might be worth asking Apple why Windows (via their HFS driver) is reporting your 1080 byte file as 4k in size, both actual size and 'on disk' size.
hgeo Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 Yes thats true, ISO is already rounded up by the correct block size. Not sure if it is the limitation of the HFS+, but Apple needs to look after it.Anyway, thank you very much LUK for your help, and keep up the great work with this awesome software. If you wish, feel free to close this topic, since I have received the answer to my problem. I will just use ISO images or reformat my Windows partition to have more space copying over my workflow. Best regards.
