Windows 7 Pro 64-bit: Trying to make bootable install disk

Good afternoon.

I successfully created a pair of files *.MDS and *.ISO (that has since disappeared). That went well.

Ah but then I got all the way through the excellent tutorial "How to create a Windows Vista/7/8 installation disk (bootable)..." and got a message that it wouldn't fit on my DVD (standard 4.37 GB free) and should it truncate or soldier on. I had no clue so I backed out of it.

I've searched (obviously without the right terms; I'm sure it's been covered) specifically for not enough space for bootable install disk and have come up empty.

I'm new to the concept of ISO rescue but not to backup. Again researching, I've gotten mixed messages as to whether I can just copy my original (apparently dual layer) install DVD. Well, I know I can but can I make it bootable and would it serve as an emergency replacement installation disk.

I'm trying to be more diligent with my backups and would like to store the most important software disks - this surely is one - off site.

I don't need hand-holding but I could surely use a nudge in the right direction. Sometimes I do miss Windows 3.1 (and even DOS).

Thanks much for helping.

Your original install disc must already be bootable? You can just copy that using the 'how to copy a disc' guide.

If the source disc is a double layer one, you'll need a blank double layer one to write the image to.

Ah. Times two!

Yes it's bootable. I hadn't thought about the double layer disk to write to. I've never had those. I'm assuming readily available so I'm all set. Thanks so much for the help.

Super product by the way. I wandered in a maze of software that not quite did what I needed. Yours does and without a lot of bells and whistles. Again, thanks.
