fnbdave Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 I have used Imgburn before with no problems using Sony DVD-R media on my Sony laptop with the Mats UJ812 drive. Today I unsuccessfully tried to burn 3 discs and I keep getting the same error. I tried changing the write speed to 2x and 1x but got the same outcome. Here is the log. What could be the problem? LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Your drive doesn't like the discs you're using. See if there is a firmware update for the drive and try some different discs (Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden).

The firmware is up to date so I know thats not it. I also know TDK and Memorex dont work with it so will look for Verbatim.

You can't ever go by the 'brand' name of the DVDs, you need to look at the dye type they use. Your current ones don't even register with a proper manufacturer ID - or perhaps your Matshita drive just isn't / can't report it properly. Disc ID: 0@P-!-00

LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 You have to buy them from an online supplier that quotes the disc/manufacturer ID on the page where you add them to your basket. Verbatim generally use the MCC dye or TY (Taiyo Yuden). They're about the best you can get.

I didn't have that good an experience, a few cracked cases, etc. But, nothing as bad as shop4tech, which I swore off of. I've only ordered media from them once, while getting an NEC drive, but, I've had nice experience with newegg. (Yes, it's called newegg.com. )

lfcrule1972 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 My money would be on the discs - I tested that media for the forum as did the boss, see here and found them to be very patchy. Personally I wouldn't use them for anything - for me the days of Ritek making good media are long gone. Try and get the dye mentioned above - either Verbatim MCC or Taiyo Yuden TYG dye

Its good I hope? put a tick in test before you burn and it won't burn anything to the disc, i don't know if that is what you meant by 'at least test burn' What I ment was that I have read elsewhere that if you get an error while test burning it is (usually) not a problem with the discs. Otherwise the test burn should go fine but you will get the error while actually burning.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 That does seem to depend on the drive. Some appear to test more thoroughly in 'test mode' ! Test mode is still having to focus the laser on the sectors etc and your drive is just seeing something it doesn't like - hence why it's erroring out. Ritekf1 are not good discs so that would make sense.

andyit Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I have had the same problem and finally worked it out. I can now burn iso images. Remove the Security Update for Windows XP (KB913580) in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Check "Show Updates" and remove (KB913580).

JasonFriday13 Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I have just done a clean install of windows xp, installed sp2, and downloaded most of the updates (the ones I didn't download: .NET framwork 1.1 sp1, Office XP update). So I will see if the same patch is applied to my system and see if an image burns. I will get back tomorrow.
