T1mbo Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Hi, I've run into a problem with burning discs. I've not had a problem before, but just recently my burned discs have not verified or played properly. They seem to burn ok, but I then get an uncorrectable error message during verify, and when I try to play them, they seem to be ok to start with, then towards the end of the film the picture becomes very blocky and freezes. I've been using DVD Shrink and never had any probs until the last few weeks, and this started half way through a pack of discs that had been fine until now. Also, the drive seemd to burn CD's with no problems at all. Is this likely to be a software or hardware problem (it's a Sony DW D22A)? Any ideas gratefully received, Many Thanks
lfcrule1972 Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Can you post a copy of one of your burn logs with these blank DVD?R's ? A guess right now would be crap media causing your problems - maybe CMC MAG dye hence the failures to verify.
T1mbo Posted October 5, 2006 Author Posted October 5, 2006 Many thanks Guy's!!! Just tried using some verbatim discs and it worked first time, and it's not as if they are vastly more expensive than the budget stuff that I've used for ages (in fact, if I take into consideration the budget ones wasted, then there is no difference!). My only other query is why should the budget stuff work so well for so long (I'd never had a problem for over a year), and then all of a sudden they stop working completely? Any suggestions? Still, once again, many thanks for your help, it is truely appreciated. Once a technophobe, always a technophobe, T1mbo
blutach Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 (in fact, if I take into consideration the budget ones wasted, then there is no difference!). How true is that, eh? The budget stuff is really quite hit and miss. Sometimes you can get semi-decent stuff, others it's not worth a rat's. Worse still, if you come back a year or so later, the media has degraded (this is from a technology that is supposed to preserve your data for years and years). Verbs or TYs. Forget about problems. Regards

T1mbo Posted October 6, 2006 Author Posted October 6, 2006 (edited) I'm really sorry for being a dullard, and understand that you get what you pay for in terms of quality, but why does this budget media allow a film to be burnt ok for say 90 mins, then degrade, pixilate or freeze at that point. Why doesn't it do this from the start? I appologise for maybe asking a stupid question, but I'm curious as to why this happens! Many thanks for your fore-bearance!! I really appreciate your time taken to help. Edited October 6, 2006 by T1mbo
cornholio7 Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 cheap dvd media typically is bad at the outer edges of the disc , some of the really cheap stuff can start erroring out from anywhere on the disc, if you have the time ,read through the drives and media section , take a look at longten001 to see how bad media performs
blutach Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 And even if they do burn, they tend to degrade - sometimes quite rapidly. Come back in a year and your precious data is simply a bitbucket. Trust only Verbatim (MCC/MKM dye) and Taiyos. #1 rule. Regards
