The dreaded "Program Memory Area Update Failure" error

I've mangled 5 DVDs thusfar (Verbatim and Memorex)..

Are your verbatim discs the same mid as the memorex ones? Your log only shows 'CMC' discs being burnt

Have you tried dropping the write speed down to 8x?

The disc / manufacturer ID.

 

It's listed in the box on the right when you're about to burn the disc.

I tried burning at 8x with similar results (log attached).

 

The MIDs are:

Verbatim: CMC MAG. AM3

Memorex: CMC MAG-M01-00

 

I'd seen somewhere that ITunes can interfere with burning.  I tried stopping all the Apple processes I could find but it didn't help.
