JohnthePilot Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Hi, I'm a newcomer to Imgburn so forgive my ignorance. I've seen several topics on how to burn .VOB and .IFO files to an .iso file, but how do you do the reverse? I've just burnt an .ISO file to a DVD and all I got on the DVD was the original .ISO file. I expected AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. Regards, Pilot
cornholio7 Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 welcome to the forum use write mode, or if the programme is closed right click on your iso and choose burn with imgburn
JohnthePilot Posted October 7, 2006 Author Posted October 7, 2006 Hi again I thought I had checked the "Write" option. In fact, when I restarted Imgburn and selected "Mode", "Write" was already checked. Anyway, I've rerun it and it's worked this time so I must have done something wrong. Thanks for your help. Regards, Pilot.
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 Hi Cornholio. Another question for you that I haven't been able to find the answer to. I've ripped a DVD to my hard drive and it's now there as IFO and VOB files in VIDEO_TS. I've usually burnt these to DVD with Nero BurningRom, but I've recently been having problems with Nero. How do I do it with ImgBurn? All I can find out is how to convert these files to an ISO file and that's not what I want; I simply want to copy the VOB and IFO files. Sorry if I'm being thick. Thanks, Pilot.
cornholio7 Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 check out the guides forum http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showforum=4 its all explained there
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 Hi Cornholio, With Nero BurningRom I simply burn the VOB and IFO files to the DVD. Am I right in assuming that with ImgBurn I first have to create an ISO file on my hard drive using the Build Mode then burn this to the DVD using the Write Mode, cos all the guides seem to be about create ISO files or am I missing something? Cheers, Pilot.
SPA_CE Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 (edited) To burn the files directly to a DVD, switch to Device Output in build mode. See picture for more info. Edited October 9, 2006 by dA CLOwN
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 Hi Clown, Thanks for your reply. I'm trying that now. BTW, the image you posted was unreadable, even when blown up, I suggest you resize your image to that for 15 inch monitor then post the image for Forum 1. I've attached a pic of ImgBurn doing what your suggested. Cheers, Pilot.
SPA_CE Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 About the image i uploaded, are you sure you clicked on it to see it on it's original size? I just saw it and had no problems.
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 Hi Clown, Yes I did and still couldn't make out the detail. BTW, what you suggested failed and I don't know why. Cheers, Pilot
kevdriver Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Hi Cornholio,With Nero BurningRom I simply burn the VOB and IFO files to the DVD. Am I right in assuming that with ImgBurn I first have to create an ISO file on my hard drive using the Build Mode then burn this to the DVD using the Write Mode, cos all the guides seem to be about create ISO files or am I missing something? Cheers, Pilot. JohnthePilot, Your above statement is correct. Burn the image from your harddrive to media and you should not have any problems. Let us know what happens
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 Thanks Kevdriver, I'll try that. In reply to da Clown, this is what I got when I blew up your image. Regards to you both, Pilot.
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 Hi again Kevdriver, The VIDEO_TS folder was created by DVD Shrink and is 4.35 GB. Using Nero BurningRom this fits easily on a 4.7GB DVD. I noticed when using ImgBurn that the file size was 4.68GB. This is pushing it to fit on a single layer disc. Why the discrepancy? Regards, Pilot.
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 I'm more confused than ever. Despite the error message I got (see image I posted) when I followd da Clown's suggestion, the DVD played perfectly on my PC using Nero Showtime, but when I tried to play it in my free standing DVD player it reported "No Disc". It is 4 a.m. here and my brain isn't working too well, but this is beyond me Cheers, Pilot
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 This is really doing my head in. I've just gone back up to da Clown's original post and his image is now full size and perfectly readable. When I first looked at the post it was a thumbnail and even blown up was as shown in my posted image. What is going on? I'm going to bed. Cheers, Pilot.
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 I'm not going mad I've just noticed that da Clown has edited the post. Thank God for that. Cheers, Pilot.
kevdriver Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 John, Nero probabley burned the image in a format which your stand alone player doesn't recognize, hence the "No Disc" message. Computer drives are able to play more varities of formats because of the different programs that they have access to to do so, hence playing through Nero showtime in this case. All the DVDs' I play on my PC, play through Power DVD, having been burnt with Imgburn from a .ISO file.
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 Hi Kevdriver, No, it's the other way round. My stand alone plays Nero DVDs fine. It's the one I just created with ImgBurn that it doesn't recognise. Cheers, Pilot
cornholio7 Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 can you post a log so we can see what's going on please

lfcrule1972 Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Well as you can see from the log the verify on that burn failed, the drive is trying to read the disc back and failing. It might be unconnected but I have never heard of the media ID on those discs, by that I mean the dye manufacturer. Here on the forum we see a lot of problems caused by poor media. Members by discs based on a brand name, Maxell, TDK etc but the dye on those discs can be really shoddy. For trouble free burns I use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim dye, it's hard to get over the counter in shops so it's best to use an online retailer like www.svp.co.uk who give you the media id (dye) info on their site. If I was you I would get some top quality media.......
blutach Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I 03:16:23 Source Media Type: DVD+R (Book Type: DVD+R) (Disc ID: TDK-003-00) (Speeds: 4x, 8x, 12x, 16x) Seems like they are TDKs LFC. Perhaps fake. Regards
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 How can you tell the dye manufacturer from that log? Anyway, yes they are TDK. At least I could see that bit and I'll be real pissed off if they are fake. I might as well go back to Tesco's own brand at one third the price. At least they work. I've not tried to burn one of those with ImgBurn, only Nero. I'll try one of those and see what happens. Cheers, Pilot.
JohnthePilot Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 Hi Guys, Further to mylast post, the ID for Tesco's +RW discs is INFODISC-A10-01 Regards, Pilot.
