MarcDC Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 On a Samsung BD writer (usb se-506BB/TSBD) Imgburn says supported write speed 2x,4x,6x. for a BD-R Sony RITEK-BR3-000. I did set AWS at 4, and (to make sure?) set the speed at 4 before starting write. The 4x speed seems accepted (see log) however while writing the speed goes up and up (up to 5,8x probably too fast for the USB connection). Then the verify fails with L-EC uncorrectable error. BTW I had no problems on same setup with Sony BD-RE (the only change I made to the Imgburn settings is BD-RE fasr write). Any idea? Thanks for this nice progam I used for years without any problem... ********************************************Imgburn log************************************************* I 14:07:39 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started!I 14:07:39 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Edition (6.1, Build 7601 : Service Pack 1)I 14:07:39 Total Physical Memory: 4,158,580 KiB - Available: 1,901,152 KiBI 14:07:39 Initialising SPTI...I 14:07:39 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 14:07:40 -> Drive 1 - Info: DVDFab Virtual Drive 1.1 (Y:) (SCSI)I 14:07:43 -> Drive 2 - Info: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ862AS 1.10 (D:) (SATA)I 14:07:44 -> Drive 3 - Info: TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506BB TS00 (X:) (USB 2.0)I 14:07:44 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM, 1 BD-ROM/HD DVD-ROM and 1 BD-RE XL!I 14:09:23 Operation Started!I 14:09:23 Source File: I:\COMPIL-2014-SHORT-V3-X.V.ISOI 14:09:23 Source File Sectors: 10,304,992 (MODE1/2048)I 14:09:23 Source File Size: 21,104,623,616 bytesI 14:09:23 Source File Volume Identifier: COMPIL-2014-SHORT-V3-X.VI 14:09:23 Source File Volume Set Identifier: 46518A33009D3CD8I 14:09:23 Source File Application Identifier: ImgBurn v2.5.8.0I 14:09:23 Source File Implementation Identifier: ImgBurnI 14:09:23 Source File File System(s): UDF (2.50)I 14:09:23 Destination Device: [0:0:0] TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506BB TS00 (X:) (USB)I 14:09:23 Destination Media Type: BD-R (Disc ID: RITEK-BR3-000)I 14:09:23 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 2x; 4x; 6xI 14:09:23 Destination Media Sectors: 12,219,392I 14:09:23 Write Mode: BDI 14:09:23 Write Type: DAOI 14:09:23 Write Speed: 2xI 14:09:23 Hardware Defect Management Active: NoI 14:09:23 BD-R Verify Not Required: NoI 14:09:23 Link Size: AutoI 14:09:23 Lock Volume: YesI 14:09:23 Test Mode: NoI 14:09:23 OPC: YesI 14:09:23 BURN-Proof: EnabledI 14:09:23 Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 8,992 KB/s (2x)I 14:10:13 Filling Buffer... LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 The drive shouldn't have done that. It accepted the request to change the write speed to 2x and when queried for the speed it was going to burn at, it reported 2x. So there's no reason at all for it to have messed up and burnt faster than 2x. Maybe it's a bug in the firmware on the drive? Do you have any other discs you can try? I assume it's ok with DVDs? You can update the drive's firmware to TS01 from here: http://www.firmwarehq.com/Samsung/SE-506BB/files.html
MarcDC Posted March 27, 2015 Author Posted March 27, 2015 Ok, Firmware is updated, problem remains exactly the same. The buffer remains steady full the Devide buffer shows steep dives deeper and more predsent as writing speed speed increases... Thanks for your attention, Marc Next time, will it be usefull to request the graph? I usualy do not ask Imgbuild to record one...and BD are a bit expensive... Should I try Verbatim? **************************************Imgburn last log******************************************* I 16:48:55 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started!I 16:48:55 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Edition (6.1, Build 7601 : Service Pack 1)I 16:48:55 Total Physical Memory: 4,158,580 KiB - Available: 2,078,652 KiBI 16:48:55 Initialising SPTI...I 16:48:55 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 16:48:55 -> Drive 1 - Info: DVDFab Virtual Drive 1.1 (Y:) (SCSI)I 16:48:55 -> Drive 2 - Info: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ862AS 1.10 (D:) (SATA)I 16:48:58 -> Drive 3 - Info: TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506BB TS01 (E:) (USB 2.0)I 16:48:58 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM, 1 BD-ROM/HD DVD-ROM and 1 BD-RE XL!I 16:49:15 Operation Started!I 16:49:15 Source File: I:\COMPIL-2014-SHORT-V3-X.V.ISOI 16:49:15 Source File Sectors: 10,304,992 (MODE1/2048)I 16:49:15 Source File Size: 21,104,623,616 bytesI 16:49:15 Source File Volume Identifier: COMPIL-2014-SHORT-V3-X.VI 16:49:15 Source File Volume Set Identifier: 46518A33009D3CD8I 16:49:15 Source File Application Identifier: ImgBurn v2.5.8.0I 16:49:15 Source File Implementation Identifier: ImgBurnI 16:49:15 Source File File System(s): UDF (2.50)I 16:49:15 Destination Device: [0:0:0] TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506BB TS01 (E:) (USB)I 16:49:15 Destination Media Type: BD-R (Disc ID: RITEK-BR3-000)I 16:49:15 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 2x; 4x; 6xI 16:49:15 Destination Media Sectors: 12,219,392I 16:49:15 Write Mode: BDI 16:49:15 Write Type: DAOI 16:49:15 Write Speed: 2xI 16:49:15 Hardware Defect Management Active: NoI 16:49:15 BD-R Verify Not Required: NoI 16:49:15 Link Size: AutoI 16:49:15 Lock Volume: YesI 16:49:15 Test Mode: NoI 16:49:15 OPC: YesI 16:49:15 BURN-Proof: EnabledI 16:49:15 Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 8,992 KB/s (2x)I 16:50:03 Filling Buffer... LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Hmm weird. Next time you burn one, please do capture graph data so I can take a look. It might be worth turning off 'Perform OPC Before Write' as that's off by default... and 'BD-R Verify Not Required' is usually on by default (you've turned it off). If you have discs with a different MID, give those a try.
MarcDC Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 It will take a while to lay hands on another MID, so be patient, I 'll come back...one day
MarcDC Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Had a problem with my last post (hope it is not duplicated...) Sony did change its manufacturing and dye: my problems started when they switched from "Made in Japan MID SONY-NN3-002" to "Made in Taiwan MID RITEK-BR3-000. It may be easy for Sony to cut cost, it will be more difficult for Sony to regain my confidence... ****************************************Imgburn Log*************************************************** I 20:58:28 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started!I 20:58:28 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Edition (6.1, Build 7601 : Service Pack 1)I 20:58:28 Total Physical Memory: 4,158,580 KiB - Available: 2,085,076 KiBI 20:58:28 Initialising SPTI...I 20:58:28 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 20:58:28 -> Drive 1 - Info: DVDFab Virtual Drive 1.1 (Y:) (SCSI)I 20:58:29 -> Drive 2 - Info: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ862AS 1.10 (D:) (SATA)I 20:58:29 -> Drive 3 - Info: TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506BB TS01 (E:) (USB 2.0)I 20:58:29 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM, 1 BD-ROM/HD DVD-ROM and 1 BD-RE XL!I 20:59:19 Operation Started!I 20:59:19 Source File: I:\COMPIL-2014-SHORT-V3-X.V.ISOI 20:59:19 Source File Sectors: 10,304,992 (MODE1/2048)I 20:59:19 Source File Size: 21,104,623,616 bytesI 20:59:19 Source File Volume Identifier: COMPIL-2014-SHORT-V3-X.VI 20:59:19 Source File Volume Set Identifier: 46518A33009D3CD8I 20:59:19 Source File Application Identifier: ImgBurn v2.5.8.0I 20:59:19 Source File Implementation Identifier: ImgBurnI 20:59:19 Source File File System(s): UDF (2.50)I 20:59:19 Destination Device: [0:0:0] TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506BB TS01 (E:) (USB)I 20:59:19 Destination Media Type: BD-R (Disc ID: RITEK-BR3-000)I 20:59:19 Destination Media Supported Write Speeds: 2x; 4x; 6xI 20:59:19 Destination Media Sectors: 12,219,392I 20:59:19 Write Mode: BDI 20:59:19 Write Type: DAOI 20:59:19 Write Speed: 2xI 20:59:19 Hardware Defect Management Active: NoI 20:59:19 BD-R Verify Not Required: NoI 20:59:19 Link Size: AutoI 20:59:19 Lock Volume: YesI 20:59:19 Test Mode: YesI 20:59:19 OPC: YesI 20:59:19 BURN-Proof: EnabledI 20:59:19 Write Speed Successfully Set! - Effective: 8,992 KB/s (2x)I 20:59:26 Filling Buffer... LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Test mode doesn't often work for anything other than CDs and dvd-R media. Drives usually ignore the flag to use test mode and end up actually writing to the disc. I can't look at the graph at the moment but will as soon as I can (next week).
MarcDC Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 I got new "other" Sony BD-R. No way to find out without opening the pack (of 10) if i'ts Made in Japan or Taiwan. I took the chance: once opened It'is "made in nowhere". The cardboard (inside) says Accucore (as it was on the "made in Japan" Sony MID, that burned OK). Now, once tested with Imgburn, it says "RITEK-BR3-000" (Bad luck)., BUT did burn OK. I set the speed at 4x, it burned at any speed from 0 to 5;3??? (see log). Hope this helps. MarcDC Posted May 2, 2015 Author Posted May 2, 2015 Back to square one: I only managed to burn corectly ONE disk. As there is no way to read the MID without opening the box, I now have a problem for having my purchase refunded (VandenBorre Waterloo). I should have tested the BD keeping the pack closed...How do I do that? Please explain.
