SATA support?

I am having the "The program gets stuck on 'Seaching for SCSI/ATAPI Devices'" application 'hang'. It actually renders my whole system virtually useless. I couldnt even save the debug log using notepad. That would hang when trying to save! So I actually saved it at the command prompt. Anyone rememeber the last time they used 'copy con'? This is a fresh XP install. I am using a SATA drive as my primary. I never had any issues until using a SATA device. Anyway heres the log.

first impressions say the drive is mapped wrongly. I 09:21:46 [2:0:0] PLEXTOR DVDR PX-712A 1.03 (D:) (ATA)

you can see the next drive is mapped as the slave I 09:21:47 [2:1:0] DVD-E616P2 1.03 (E:) (ATA)

if the second drive is SATA too then this doesn't seem too odd after all, but if it is an ordinary IDE drive......

is the SATA drive plugged into the motherboard or a pci card?

my sata drives ,plugged directly to the motherboard are listed as (0:0:0)

ide devices typically use (1:*:*) and (2:*:*), primary and secondary channel .

how is it set up in your bios sata wise?

Thanks for the reply! Curious...Why would it matter how my drives are set up? Here's a quick HW rundown.

Asus K8V SE Deluxe (2 ATA-133, 2 Sata VIA, 1 UDMA-133, 2 Sata Promise Controller)

Now instead of burning off my crap Ive accumulated over the years Ive gotten bigger harddrives LOL

Conected to the ATA-133:

Maxtor 120

Western Dig 120

Plextor DVD Writer

DVDRom

Connected to the Sata VIA:

320 Western Dig

The 320 is my Primary Master. I have a ata controller card for a Western Digital 200. I use that for easy access to other HDs I might need to connect. Now everything worked fine until I decided to use a SATA drive. I did a fresh install using the correct drivers to get the XP install going. My IDE HDs where disconnected at that time to make sure I'd get the SATA HD installed as C:. I dont have any trouble using other burning software at this time either. Well other than DVDDecrypter.

Firmware updates?!?!

Plextor is on 1.07 now.

Asus is on 1.08 now.

There were huge problems with earlier versions... I even made a point of posting about it on the old DVD Decrypter website.

The Asus drive is actually getting stuck when asked to report it's region info.

It's certainly nothing SATA related, I've got 4 of them in my box (and 4 IDE and 3 SCSI).

Thats where it sticks NOW. It hung at search until I used the Fix aspi NT reg file. I will look into the Firmware updates but I didn't have these problems before for use of SATA.

edit:

Well LIGHTNING UK! if you didnt know it already you are the man! Tho hellbent on it being a SATA issue I did the firmware updates. It was the OEM Asus drive that did me in! I actually had to find a hacked firmware to change my drive to Retail in order for the official firmware to take. Doing a test burn now. I don't why the problem started after SATA but things look to be solved. Hopefully. Through my search for a solution I never noticed a firmware upgrade suggestion. THANKS! Very much appreciated.

It would have always been hanging there. You've just enabled I/O Debug mode so it chucks loads of stuff in the log that you wouldn't normally see.

You need to turn that off now. Do so by pressing F8.

lol I've been doing this stuff so long now, I've seen almost every problem people are likely to come across. Not only that, I actually went out and got one of those ASUS drives back in the DVD Decrypter days to try and solve a problem very similar to your own. Back then it was a firmware problem and I remember that only the 1.08 firmware fixed it - hence why I told you to update yours.

Not that it matters now but that ASPI fix is not for you. You're using SPTI so ASPI doesn't even come into the equation.

LOL yea is didnt even notice that SPTI in the log. Is that what you recommend I continue using? Are there any advantages to using that instead of the others? My burn did write and verify successfully tho I have not checked dvd in a standalone player yet. Maybe we should have this topic changed to reflect the true problem and its resolution? Again I appreciate the help.

I always recommend people stick to the default settings.

They're the ones I use all the time and so undergo the most testing.

SPTI allows for other clever things too that aren't as easy/possible at all under ASPI.

The Elby and VSO drivers are quite similar though.
