Malikus Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) Hi, I hope you can help. I have been trying to burn some backups of some of my 360 games and I have been having lots of problems and I am going through a lot of DVD's trying out different ideas and suggestions so I thought I would start a new thread about my specific problem to see if I could get some help. I have combed through the forum looking at people posts with similar problems and I have tried many different methods but I keep getting failures. I got the Verbatim DL DVD's - MKM-003 - so I thought I would be good to go but I am still getting problems with burns. I burned a backup earlier today that was only 7.9 GB and that burned no problem and I was able to boot it up on my 360. Then I tried the one below and 2 others that same size and I can't get past around 50-55% verification so I am not sure if it is the file size or what. I'm using burnermax so I just don't get it. Any ideas? I 17:45:16 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 You could try the 8L0A firmware update. http://www.firmwarehq.com/Lite-On/iHAS124%2BD/files.html Clear the drive's OPC history. You may need to try another spindle of MKM-003-00 discs. Get them from a different supplier. Settings wise, you're using what's always worked for me on several drives, so there should be no problem there.
Malikus Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 OK, so I downloaded and updated my firmware to the 8L0A and cleared the drive's OPC history then tried a new burn.....fail. Here is the log. LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Discs are made in different places, so just all being 'MKM-003-00' doesn't make them equal. You can also get good and bad spindles. It could also be your drive isn't good with the oversized images. Try scanning the disc with kprobe (at 4x speed) and post up the graph so I can see it.
Malikus Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 (edited) if you need a larger image or a different sample just let me know. Edited August 7, 2015 by Malikus
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 A non shrunk version would certainly be easier to read. You can see that the error rate on the 2nd layer is very high though, that's why it's unreadable. I doubt it'll make a difference but you could try enabling the 'Perform OPC Before Write' option in the settings and see if it helps the drive learn how to burn the variation of MKM-003-00 that you've got. I'd be interested to see a scan from the disc you said you burnt a non oversized image to.
Malikus Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 Here is a scan of the disc I burned that was a smaller file and was successful.
Malikus Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 (edited) so i remembered that I had a sony dvd burner (Optiarc DVD RW AD-7190S) in one of my old computers so I figured I would give that a try for the hell of it. Malikus Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 Here is the Kprobe of the disc I burned with the Sony drive.
Malikus Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 lol, yeah, I gathered that after I did the test. I figured what the hell. What do you think of the Kprobe for the disc that I did the worked but wasn't over 8 gb? do you think my drive just cant handle the overburn or do you think its the spindle of Verbatim I picked up? If you think its the drive, can you recommend a drive that is really good for the type of burning/overburning I am doing? Thanks again for all your help on this.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 The Optiarc burnt them just fine so I'd say it's more likely to be the drive itself now. It's not even that the liteon did a bad job on the overburnt one, even the normal burn (that seemingly worked) is pretty awful.
