IO error: write error... Sony DVD+R DL 2.4-8x... TS-L633J SC01... Wii ISO

Hello, I've read many tutorials about burning DL discs and I have tried it for the first time today.

I have successfully burned many single-layered discs before, but I got an error in my first time burning DVD+R DL.

I bought Sony DVD+R DL 2.4-8x discs because I thought they would be considered "good quality" (I couldn't find Verbatim. I can look for Elgin though).

I got an I/O error at 88% while burning a Wii ISO.

Here's the log (also .txt attached):

What's the reason for this error? My Sony discs? My TS-L633J driver? Please enlighten me! :)

Oh, I see...

I have 3 discs and 2 games left... is it worth trying to burn the same ISO at a different speed? (I read the pinned post, so it might be - but higher or lower speed?)

Or is it better if I try the other ISO? (and keep the same media type and same driver)

They are not that cheap each and I can't afford to buy spare media at the moment.  :unknown:

Sorry if I am bothering too much... I'm a bit insecure although I have searched a lot about burning DL and did not find anything regarding Sony DVD+R DLs for Wii ISOs... Tx again  :console:

Yeah, I've never heard of MBIPG101-R10-65 before so it's probably trash media.  You can't trust the name on the package.  Verbatim releases good media but only when Mitsubishi makes it for them.  They sometimes farm out to CMC, the worst maker out there.  So, don't get CMC Verbatim DVD+R DL from a store.  Search online for DataLife Plus.

Sony used to make their own good DVD-R then farmed them out to Ritek, which isn't as good.  Plus, Sony makes 95% junk since 2002.  Last Sony optical media I had was a BD-RE that died before its fifth write.

Hello, guys, I'm back with some (good) news!

After that first failure, I tried another burner (drive). I was able to successfully burn the two ISOs on it, using the same Sony media I had.

Although I got "No Seek Complete" and "L-EC Uncorrectable Error" errors on the first try with my other drive, I must say that the game was burned successfully and I'm able to play it on my Wii.

After that, I tried burning the other ISO and this time the operation was flawless. I got 100% burn and verification success.

I'll leave the remaining logs here in case anyone comes to this post looking for answers.

  • 1st and only attempt on first burner - Burn error. Operation Failed. Log: See previous comment.

  • 1st attempt on new burner - Burn success, Verify error. Game 1 successfully playing on console. Log:

Pioneer drives appear to be pretty good.  I've had only one, but it will be 2 years old in January and it's still going when I normally got only about 6 months lifespan out of other drives.  The only problem I've had with my Pioneer lately was Saturday when I tried to eject the drive by pressing the drive's eject button.  The drive light lit up, drive made noise as it tried to open the tray, but the tray didn't open.  I pressed eject again and it did open properly.  Ever since then, I've had no manual eject or ImgBurn eject commands not working.  So, it may have been a fluke or an indication the drive is starting to go.  I'll definitely get another Pioneer Blu-Ray next time.
