strohmoose Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I have been trying to burn a DL DVD and keep getting thre following log entries "invalid file in CDB" I am using a Plextor 716A with Verbatim DL discs. I had updated the firmare to 1.10 that did not help so I went back to 1.09 and that did not work either. I have reinstalled all of the drivers and the Plextor burner and I am really confused at this time. Help please! I 17:10:40 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started! polopony Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 sounds like it could be a bad disc . BTW theres a new firmware for that drive 1.10 maybe that will help
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 There shouldn't be any issue here so something must be faulty somewhere. Either the discs are fake / from a dodgy batch or your drive is giving up the ghost (my 716 only lasted a year - and that was with very occassional use!). You could also have a dodgy cable, bad drivers, naughty filter drivers installed etc. Sorry but this is something you're going to need to fix by some messing around. I don't often see drives being listed as '(ATAPI)' so can I just ask HOW exactly the drive is connected to your PC? What chipset does the PC use? Is the drive on the 1st or 2nd channel? Is it master or slave? Is the IDE controller a proper one on the motherboard that's built into the north/southbridge chip or is it a 3rd party one (maybe a pci card) ?

Plextor 716A DVDR position 0 Sony DDU 1621 DVD-ROM position 1, and both are internal and on an Intel 8280 1DB Ultra ATA controller on the PCI bus I have a 120GB internal HD and a 120GB Maxtor external USB 2 HD for storing the movies before burning to disc. I use only Verbatim discs for burning +R for DL and -R for single layer and just two days ago I burned several successful DL discs. I have been considering a Samsung DVDR with litescribe* as a replacement to my Plextor 716A which has lasted three years now. I had bad luck with previous Sonys, Liteons and HPs so they are out of the running! Plextor does not offer litescribe as an option or I would get another one. Thanks for your help "the Moose"

LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 lol I wouldn't bother with lightscribe, it's pretty awful.... takes too long and it's really only interesting for 5 mins until the novelty factor wears off. Forget 'bad luck', every brand has it's ups and downs. My 716 only lasted a year. All my other NEC's, Pioneers, LiteOn's, BenQ's etc are still going strong. Any of those 5 brands (inc Plextor), + LG are ok. Go for the latest models and you can't go far wrong*. (* with the exception of the BenQ... I would go for a 1655 over a 1670) My 716 was replaced by a Plextor 760. That seems like a nice drive
dbminter Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 For some more (possible) information on the invalid field, see this thread as to what it may mean. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=2300&hl=
